MMR vaccine question (to do with IVF/Prof Robert Winston)

Just had MIL on the phone requesting that we give dc2 (am 34 wks pg with IVF baby) the separate vaccines rather than the combined MMR jab. Apparently she's seen something that Prof Robert Winston said on tv about IVF babies being more likely to have autism, and therefore he recommends the separate injections?

Does anyone know anything about this? I, in all my naivety, thought that there wasn't a link between MMR and autism so am rather confused Hmm

Afaik there's no link between MMR and autism. I don't know about IVF though.

'Scientist Lord Robert Winston commented: “We need to encourage people to understand that this is a safe vaccine and it’s been widely tested and there’s no evidence at all of autism with it.”'

That's what I thought. I wonder why MIL said this then? I have googled it and can't come up with anything like what she said!
Mind you, we lost a baby in 2010 and had them on the phone a few weeks later blaming dh for having made furniture out of MDF - apparently the dust could've made the baby have chromosomal problems Hmm
I should really take what they say with a pinch of salt...

Ivf babies are not more likely to have autism. www.newscientist.com/article/dn23801-ivf-procedures-do-not-boost-autism-risk.html#.UrFaLrK9KK0

it does sound like your mil is ready some, ahem, interesting stuff.
don't worry about the mmr vaccine. of course it can have side effects, but severe side effects are very rare.

Does she read the daily mail or express? Wink

I would be very surprised if someone like prof Robert Winston commented on a link between MMR and autism when it has been scientifically proved to be totally unrelated.

Not heard about ivf and autism, sounds like a more likely thing for Robert Winston to be commenting on (there being a link/not link found)

Think you MIL is a little bonkers
