Name that disease in one ?

One flat red spot top of back yesterday.

Four more spots on the bottom of back today.

DS whineing (but that's genetic). No fever. Don't appear to be itchy. Nothing else obvious. He's 3. Fully vacinnated. Not sure if he's had chicken pox.

No point in going to the GP but we don't want to spread it if he's contagious.

Ideas ?

That's how ds's chickenpox started almost exactly...

ballstoit · 13/12/2013 07:38

Impetigo? DDs just had it, and wasn't itchy although gp said she should be!

Worth a gp trip, as antibiotic cream will prevent spreading.

Sounds like chicken pox, although they're supposed to come up as blisters aren't they?

InSpaceNooneCanHearYouScream · 13/12/2013 10:10

Got any animals? Flea bites? (Sorry)

didireallysaythat · 13/12/2013 16:53

Fleas are a possibility but the spots are a little too large from experience (we got halled up by the nursery for flea bites earlier in the year). I hadn't thought about impetigo - I remember having it and it's possible. Chicken pox - they don't seem raised up enough yet.

This will be the 4th time we've thought he's had cpox. Each time we've had 3-4 days off but when the initial spots don't spread we've gone to the GP to flick through the childhood spotty disease picture book to come to no conclusion.

In the interest of public health I'd keep him off nursery but I've had to buy holiday to get through christmas this year we've had so many false alarms I've had to take time off for...

Hmmm- my sisters toddler got one spot one night, then a line of three more the next night. We all thought it was cpox but it was in fact, flea bites. They did look quite big- I didn't recognise them as flea bites despite havings lots as a kid! Blush

What size are the spots? Have they scabbed over, or blistered?

didireallysaythat · 14/12/2013 20:10

They are 3-5mm. Not really blistered or scabbed over, just red. They may be itchy but I'm reluctant to ask as I'm sure he'll start itching whether or not they are itchy. Only two more today, close to the first ones.

My 3 and my chicken pox started as flat red spots.

didireallysaythat · 14/12/2013 21:03

If its chicken pox do you expect more spots at some stage ? With DS1 he got 1 spot then 10 more 2 weeks later. Nursery didn't suggest it was pox and I think they probably see more cases than our GP who won't see a child with pox without a special reason (don't want them infecting a waiting room I guess).
