Removing stone under skin

My dd skidded along the playground today and now has a stone embedded in her hand, under the skin. Any tips on how to get it out? School didn't want to did too deep and have left it to me.

Calpol or Nurofen first ~(wait till it takes effect) then soak it in hot water and either try to push it out with your fingers or pull with fine tweezers.
(or maybe you could try and suck it out?)

otherwise hospital, if it's too big/sharp and gone too deep or too painful.

poor girl. Cake

My dh had several removed from his back (from skidding along the floor playing football!). He had them removed at the doctors by the nurse there. As they were so deep they injected an anaesthetic first and then used a scapel to remove them. He didn't feel any of it apart from the injection.

ouch though!

Oh yes ouch indeed.. but these were really nasty ones. I possibly shouldn't have mentioned it but thought it worth saying that they can often remove then at a doctors.

of course, it's a sort of thing you need to see.

I'm pretty brave to try things myself, but you make a judgement call and sometimes it's best to leave it to the experts!Wink

(I once removed a piece of orange peel from DS4's nose - I was shitting myself coz I thought it was a Lego minifugure's yellow arm and I knew I had only one try before going to the hospital.
but I thought what else would they do but try with a pair of tweezers? suction? ah, let's try.
and I did a perfect job. I was so proud! Grin )

I removed some little balls of rolled up foil (from a cherry Bakewell rather than drugsGrin ) from up DDs nose with a torch and some tweezers once. And a little art and crafts type pompom another timeGrin .

I would go for the warm soak plus good tweezers after painkillers route.

I do that sort of thing when they're asleep.

Thank you. We went for a soak then a root around with a needle and tweezers. What looked like an enormous stone was actually just lots of dirt.
