Ds has had a bad cough and high temperature since Saturday. He hasn't needed medicine to control it control it continuously - probably peaks to 39 about every 8hrs or so. He has had a couple of bouts of croup in the night and says his throat is sore. He has just turned 4.

Is it a wet cough? If it's wet I might be tempted to take him. Only that my ds (2) had pneumonia which was a wet cough accompanied by a consistently high temperature, so I do get him checked now just to put my mind at ease. But I only take him if his temperature is high and close to 40 degrees.

It isn't particularly wet or chesty cough, and he has been running around all evening pretending to be a monster and hitting everyone and doing headstands on the sofa. However I did take him to the dr earlier and apparently it is a chest infection - just as well I took him rather than see how he went as based on his behaviour now you really wouldn't think he was ill and I wouldn't have bothered. I have taken far sicker children and been ushered out with the virus chat, I think there was something about his eyes though.

Glad you got it sorted and he's obviously feeling better to play monsters!

My dd had the same - she had fever and cough and was really struggling and wheezing in night. Nurse p could hear lots of wheezes and crackles on her chest so decided she had an infection that needed abx. There are some horrible things doing the rounds at the moment.

Hope your ds starts to feel better soon .

Trouble is that he hasn't seemed particularly ill. I was all set to pack him off to nursery today until I took his temperature. I have seen the same GP quite a lot over the years for their various ailments and she's not one to over prescribe so I know he must be unwell but his behaviour doesn't reflect that. I am used to girls curling up on the sofa barely moving when they are ill! I wonder whether the antibiotics will improve his mood.
