10 days old, seems like belly ache at night

My son is 10 days old over the past few nights once he has had his first feed around 2/3 I clock, he can't settle again. He brings his legs up, moaning and groaning, even if he manages to fall back to sleep on me, I can feel he is really uncomfortable. Last night he was screaming and clinging onto my nighty, it was heart breaking because I didn't know what to do, once he manages to burp or poo he seems to settle for a bit.
Any suggestions how to soothe him? I'm a first time mum and I'm breast feeding on demand now, midwives not much help just say breast fed babies do not normally suffer with trapped wind so try bathing him befor bed.

Sounds like wind. Try and hold him upright against you while patting or rubbing his back. I found the heel of my hand better to use when rubbing, seemed to help ds produce a burp quicker.

You can also try laying him down and very gently bicycling his legs.

Ok thanks, I haven't tried the leg one but anything is worth a try :)

Arh bless him 10 day old baby Envy This time 16 years ago my dd was 10 days old Smile

Hold him up against your shoulder or over your knee so he has light pressure on his tummy to try and get the wind to escape.

Is there anything to prevent trapped wind ? My midwife told me to some infocal I have tried it today and not sure if it's helped or not

My ebf dd (7 weeks) has a lot of wind. It's utter nonsense that breastfed babies don't have wind - of the 7 mums in my NCT group 5 of the babies are in infacol - all breastfed!

DD has lots of discomfort around her digestive system. I find lots of winding at every feed helps, both sat upright with one hand under the chin, and also over my shoulder. I also wind her at other times if she seems uncomfortable.

I also wind her during the feed. This also helps her to take more I think.

If it's bottom wind then leg cycles work well. I lay her on my knee and bring her feet to her bottom, pushing her knees out, and then with straight kegs, lifting her kegs at 90 degrees to her body. Five of each, repeated, seems to get her trumping Smile

Wind can be a sign if a poor latch so it's worth getting checked.

I promise it gets better as their system matures. I find winding us a lovely job for DH while I wee/get more cake etc

Oh, and infacol takes 3-4 days to work so stick at it!
