Anyone with a LO with suppressed immunity?

Just wondering if anyone can help. DD1 (6) was on immunosuppressants for 18 months for severe eczema and while she was on them, she needed 3 fillings in baby teeth. She's been off them for a few months now but was at the dentist today and she has a cavity now in a molar, so a second tooth and a much bigger deal (and pain) to get a filling.

I'm convinced that there must be a link between the medication and the fillings but neither the dentist nor the registrar dermatologist that I asked knew of any link. She doesn't have a sugary diet and we're strict on teeth brushing (I still brush them a lot of the time!).

She only has juice once a week, on a Sunday at my mum's and she drinks it with a meal. She rarely has sweets and never lollies. Smoothies are a rare treat, not a regular occurrence. The only regular sugary thing is Petit Filous - she would have one a day but she doesn't drink milk so I don't want to drop yoghurts altogether.

Anyway, was wondering if anyone had heard of a link.

TIA

Do you brush her teeth straight after eating/drinking?

Does she eat raisins/fruit which is acid?

Did she get lots of antibiotics when little or did you take it whilst pregnant?

Was she born prematurely?

Do other family members have weak teeth?

These could all be contributing to weak enamel. Not just eating sweets, could be a range of things. Maybe she is just very unlucky.

some can dry the mouth
some are taken with juice
we had similar problems after prednisone

I didn't have any fillings till I was 31. My son had 2 fillings in baby teeth age 6, and I looked after his teeth really well. It happens I'm afraid Xmas Sad. Don't worry about it all. That's what dentists are for. Just make sure she has an injection first.

OP, I hope your dentist is all over this but she should be having fissure sealants put on her permanent teeth! she should be getting fluoride varnish every six months and she should be brushing with an adult toothpaste (even a high strength prescription one). ThT is a high decay rate but the past doesn't matter now, there's no reason for a filling to be painful at all, ever ever.

The important thing is prevention now. Can you ask your dentist for three monthly check ups (a pain I know but small holes are easily fixed) until things are more stable.
