Hi there,
My 13 month old dd has this week been teething really baldly (3 teeth cut at once) and also had a cold.

Yesterday she woke up with a rash that looked like acne around her mouth and nose. We thought this was due to dribble, and the fact that she uses a dummy, and it had just got sore and rubbed/irritated.
We've been to the drs and it's actually impetigo, in the very early stages....no yellow on the spots, just sore redness.

I'm a bit worried where she got it from, and every website says something different for the causes. As it's very early stages do I need to wash all of her toys??? From what I've read, it's only infectious when the blisters have burst and there is yellow, but we have caught it before that.

Took dd to a play area this week, and she found this grotty old muzzy in a toy box, and walked around with it in her mouth for a couple of minutes, before I took it away- is it likely that she got impetigo for this. My house is clean ( I suffer from extreme OCD)
And I intend to wash all her bedding etc today, but is there any need to wash all her toys too, even though they've not been played with a lot lately, as she's been unwell?

Please let me know. I just want this to clear up ASAP, as I've already had my mother giving me grief for her getting it, making me feel an awful parent and like we're dirty (quite the opposite) and that she shouldn't be seen in public looking like that (like dd is a leper)
Feel awfully upset about this.

Please let me know. Thanks

GP should prescribe a cream for it, as you caught it early it should clear up in a week or so for now.

yes, impetigo has a terrible reputation, IIRC it is just a staphylococcus infection, tell your mother to chill.
the staphylococcus bacteria lives inside your nose, so if she sticks her finger in her nose, then slightly scratches her skin the bacteria is transferred from underneath her finger nails.

which can and will happen from time to time - the best thing is to get nose swabs from all of you to establish who has it and get treated.

sorry you are suffering from OCD.
if you can bear it try and let her get a bit dirty from time to time (eating mud, licking the floor) - she needs her immune system to be built up from being exposed to things at this age.

I'm not sure if her toys need washing, as I don't know how long the bacteria might survive outside the body, but do it if it makes you feel better.
