hearing loss but passing hearing test

Does anyone have any experience of a child passing their hearing test but actually still having a hearing problem?

DD has passed her hearing test in our NHS hospital ENT department following grommets. However school have concerns that she is still not hearing and think she may be lip reading. Also she still speaks very loudly and cannot locate where a sound is coming from.

I had thought of an audiology assessment just to be sure. Any advice?

Noticed this hadn't been replied too - had she had glue ear before? If she's just had grommets it takes a while for everything to clear, ours are always tested at 6 wks after ops but I have seen improvement in speech and language after about 2-3 months. Could she be learning to listen again? It's quite a skill, ds1 has had to have support in following instructions, music lessons and ballet help to improve his listening skills, mostly following more than 1 instruction at a time, we were recommended to have him assessed for APD - he had an assessment with SALT and they said they thought he had some catching up to do in his active listening as he'd spent so much time in his own world

Not sure if that helps, if school have concerns could they arrange for hearing team to visit and do assessment?

Thanks for this. DD had grommets in March. She passed her hearing test again last week and ENT have no concerns.

However her speech therapists believe she is still not hearing and she certainly speaks far too loudly and cannot locate where sounds come from. They don't believe it is just her needing to relearn the skills and believe that her listening skills are great. She follows complex instructions very well when looking at your lips.

Speed is paramount to prevent her falling further behind with her speech so I think we have to go private and not wait for school. Just hoping someone here might have similar experience and be able to advise if an audiology assessment is what she needs.

It sounds complex - not sure I can be much help as my 3 have had quite clear cut chronic glue ear (conductive hearing list).

These links may help understanding hearing tests and understanding hearing- how 'normal' was her hearing? ds1 (7yr) has hearing at 30db (sub normal - normal is 0-20) but thats not enough for him to have additional hearing support (or grommets), he does get a preferential seating position in class, its the same hearing level as walking around with your fingers in your ears

Auditory Processing Disorder its the only thing I've heard of when someone can hear but not understand.
How old is she?
Getting SALT is really hard in my experience - ds3 is 4 and at School, having weekly SALT but with the PRE school team because School need to see if 'there is an issue' Angry its all about funding in a lot of cases.
Maybe post of the special needs section and see if there is any advice there...
