High pitched scream :(

My heart is breaking.
My dd is 9 weeks. Today (sunday) she was not herself. Crying for no apparent reason. She would be smiling and happy one minute, crying uncontrollably the next. She sounded hungry but when i put her yo either breast (ebf) she'd scream louder. Seems more upset with me than dp

Tonight during & after feeding someting is causing her pain. She screams like a guinea pigs been stood on. High pitched & wailing. Its breaking my heart to hear. Shes tired & falls asleep when i comfort her then wakes making same noise. Eventually falling asleep properly.

Sounds like she has blocked nose too. Could it be she cant breathe? Have tried baby nose clear, saline spray & sucky thing. Not clearing it.

Any insights? What could it be?

Hi Cindy

No real advice but didn't want to read & run. I'm sure someone who can help will be along soon. Could this be a growth spurt / teething? My dd hit both at once around 8 1/2 weeks and was really unsettled for a few days. No real screaming but definite mood swings & unhappiness Hmm

What I will say is that although it feels like she is more upset with you than DP this is probably not true! I am forever saying to dh that dd is happy with everyone but me and he always points out that's not the case - it just feels that way as you are the one not able to soothe her at this time.

Hang in there, you are doing great, but if you're still worried in the morning might be worth a call to your gp.

She has just been thru a 6 week and 8 week growth spurt so i dont think so. Hope not x

Teething...i rubbed her gums to see if that helped but no go. She just sucked my finger! Not sure aboit that one...

Could it be wind? My ds suffered terribly with wind and colic and we used to burp him during and after a feed. Keeping him upright as much as possible after a feed and rubbing his back really helped.

Poor little pickle. I would suggest a trip to your GP today if she is no different, she's only very little and if she's not herself and refusing feeds they will want to see her. (Had similar experience with DS at about 14 weeks which turned out to be a nasty UTI after he was very poorly). It's so horrible when they're ill and we just want to make it all better, hope she feels better soon.

Oops sorry stupid phone

cindyrella · 25/11/2013 07:17

Thanks
x
she just woke up again for a feed. I picked her up, went to turn her sideways for a football hold to feed & she did it again. Now i think.about it, its her pain cry. I've heard it before when i accidently scratched her.

Ill call Dr i think.

Yes do get her seen ASAP as she is so tiny - let us know how she is later x

Finallygotaroundtoit · 25/11/2013 07:36

Don't wait for GP - go to A&E

High pitched cry and being unwell needs checking out asap in a baby

Hope she's better soon

Rooners · 25/11/2013 07:36

glad you said that, I was wondering the same

NCISaddict · 25/11/2013 07:37

Make sure you mention that it is a high pitched cry. Is she unusually hot or with very cold hands/feet? If so then don't delay, take her to A & E, in fact with a high pitched unusual cry I would probably do that anyway and I virtually never say that.

Let us know how you get on.

gamerchick · 25/11/2013 07:38

Erm yes high pitched cry in a young baby is a straight to Are job.. take her now.

gamerchick · 25/11/2013 07:39

A&E*

PoppadomPreach · 25/11/2013 07:45

I agree with the A&E suggestion. Hope she gets better v soon.

ElleBellyBeeblebrox · 25/11/2013 15:44

How's little lady doing?

cindyrella · 25/11/2013 17:42

Hi all. She is better thanks. Didnt get your posts until now. She hasnt done the high pitched thing all day but ha been grizly & crying but between it, a couple smiles and cooing.

Spoke to nhs helpline who said babies cry prob wind. Bad advice judging by your responses!

If she does it again, ill take her straight in. Thanks everyone for responding.

It's just because an unusually high pitched cry in a very young baby can be a sign of meningitis and that, combined with the fact she seemed unwell, rang alarm bells with me.
Glad she seems better now.

sunshinesue · 26/11/2013 21:51

Sorry op but you didn't necessarily get bad advice from the NHS helpline. presumably you gave a thorough and detailed description of your daughter's condition to a trained medical professional? I'd be inclined to take more notice of that than some well meaning strangers on the internet whose credentials you have no idea of.

hope your daughter is better soon and please contact medical professionals as many times as you need to if you are worried.

sunshinesue · 26/11/2013 21:59

Should add that includes a trip to A&E if you feel it necessary, they're always happy to see a baby if you're worried. I don't want to put you off going if you need to!
