My son had it at 9.

He was well in himself, didn't miss school and the rash took about a week to go. I was surprised he had it as he had not been unwell.

He had a blood test and a few urine tests in the weeks that followed.

He has just reminded me that he had joint pain in his legs, but it was nothing major.

Thanks Krabby! I take it he didn't have kidney issues?

No, but I know that can be a (rare) side effect.

My GP was worse than useless and mis-diagnosed him. Thankfully, I have a friend who is a paediatrician and she diagnosed, explained and set my mind at rest.

My dd had it when she was 4. It can be a potentially very serious disease, so krabby's ds was very fortunate that the rash went within a week. I know of a lad dh used to teach who was wheelchair bound for months.
For us, dd's rash lasted several months and she was very ache-y and weedy for weeks. She was one of the unfortunate ones who developed complications with her kidneys and has been for annual check-ups at GOSH (as an outpatient) ever since. She was taken straight there from our local district hospital and had biopsies, followed by a 6 month course of steroids. Although she has 8% irreparable damage to her kidneys through scarring, she has been in pretty much perfect health since. Her proteinuria has been nil, bloods always test OK. She is now 15 and has always led a totally normal life.
I am always mindful, however, that it can recur.

Good luck with it all.
