I've nc as I'm being mn stalked by my ex and if he sees this he will go mad at me discussing his kids on the internet... Hes a bit mad like that.

Right, I'm concerned about my youngest dd. She is 14mo but the size of a 6mo. She eats like a horse but just doesn't gain anything. I had her weighed 4months ago abd she was 16'7. I had her weighed yesterday and she was just 17'2.. The HV didn't seem so concerned just told me to keep serving her high fat foods. She told me to give her a "few fried breads etc, she will soon put it on" Shock

She has a really prominent forehead, well, she just has a massive head compared to the rest of her, her hats are 3yrs. The rest if her body seems to be in proportion. She does have various other health problems, she is under consultant care for her eyes and she is seeing a physio as she has problems with her ankles and hips.

I'm thinking of taking her to tge doctors for a referral to someone who can test her for dwarfism... I don't know if that is a complete over reaction though.

What would you do??

Any particularly short people in the family? Granparents, Aunt/Uncle?

kidletworries · 23/11/2013 17:27

Everyone on my side is average or above and her dad is5'11. I don't know about the rest of his family as I've never met them.

I would measure her height and check against the centiles. My 4 have all been different shapes and sizes by a year old despite starting off very similar at birth!

kidletworries · 23/11/2013 21:29

I will check her height tomorrow. She's not been measured since her 6week check. I know she was deemed ok at that stage.

I'm trying to resist googling.

I think this is possibly me being mental over nothing.

She's 74 cm I've tried plotting it on the centiles but I'm really confused by them... Do you think this puts her about the same centile as weight? I've no idea!

I dunno, you have older child(ren?) to compare to & something tells you something is odd. I think I would push gently for a referral to a developmental paed.

RockPaperScissorsLizardSpock · 24/11/2013 17:03

I have been through similar in the family recently. I would take her to your GP and raise your concerns.

NoForkNKnife · 24/11/2013 17:08

My dd is 9m and only 10.5lbs. But she was 11 weeks early and had IUGR. Her head is also slightly larger on the centiles than her other measurements.
She is under a paed for all tgis and on a very high calorie diet. She has v little milk (prescribed high cal) which I think hasn't helped the situation. But does eat 3 meals and puddings a day. I often add cream cheese and olive oil.

It sounds like your dd has only recently started to slow down though? What centile is she on? Has she dropped? My dd is way below the 0.4th centile but so far all tests have come back as 'normal'.

RandomMess · 24/11/2013 17:25

Her length according the 2010 WHO charts is the average height of a 12 month old so she seems to be very slim rather than short? One of mine was on the 80th centile for height and 20th for weight around a year old - she just wasn't that interested in food and is still exceptionally slim at 8 years as is my 11 year old - it just seems to be their build tbh.

Certainly ask for a referral but it doesn't sound too concerning at the moment. Is she very active and mobile? That could be stopping her from gaining much weight too, or food intolerances.

Thanks for the replies.

I have an older daughter who was a chunky baby and massive at this age and no health issues.

She's not been officially put on a high cal diet but I try to give her the fattiest healthy foods I can, cream cheese and sausage and mash etc.

I tried to get her a referral to a dietician but the doctor refused. I've switched doctors recently so will be trying again.

She's on the 2nd percentile for weight. She's always been small for her age (she was in tiny baby until 10weeks old) but she is slowing down massively now. She is just starting to pull herself up and taking steps but due to her ankle problems she probably won't be walking for a while. She's still too flexible with her ankles.

I don't think she has food intolerance. I thought there would be other signs of this? Unless I'm wrong, which is highly possible. She is consistant with poo's etc, she doesn't get any rashes etc, The only time she has any problems is when she is teething.

If she's quite slim for height then her head will look bigger in comparison to other tots the same age, iyswim.
High foreheads are a sign of braininess or so I like to think.
