What spots look like chickenpox but without the blisters?

7 year old ds has maybe 10-15 spots. Large, red with little white bits in the middle.

He has had chickenpox and I don't think anything is biting himConfused. He had a few more this morning, I think, than he did last night. He was unwell last weekend (high fever and, weirdly, a sore hip) and was saying he didn't feel great yesterday after school, but seemed ok this morning.

Molloscum?
If so I have previously posted about how I got rid of it on my DS if you do a search on here.

thehairybabysmum · 22/11/2013 12:25

Although they wouldn't be unwell with molloscum so prob not that.

ilovepowerhoop · 22/11/2013 12:29

are they localised in one area? If so it could be shingles

NotintheMiddle · 22/11/2013 12:35

Pretty sure it isn't Molluscum as ds1 had that and it is different IIRC.

He has them on his body, bottom, legs and face. Probably just a virus. The only thing that looked similar when I googled was folliculitis

Could it be HFM? DD had that badly enough for to think it was CP, and it was especially vicious in her eczema patches.

NickNacks · 22/11/2013 12:39

Sounds like post viral urticaria. (Hives)

Roseola? Presents just like chicken pox but the spots don't blister.

We had that recently and it was Han foot and mouth. There were horrendous mouth ulcers too, for about 24 hours.

NotintheMiddle · 22/11/2013 15:29

Thanks, I will google all suggestions Grin

Only noticed the spots yesterday, but some of them seem to be fading. though i think he has a few more. he is fine in himself now too.

That sounds more and more like hand foot and mouth!

I think it (getting new spots) lasts about 3 days with a few new spots each time but getting less and less, with old ones disappearing in a day or two.

One of the things that set it apart from chicken pox is that you don't get any spots on the trunk (usually starting point with chicken pox), but can get spots on arms, legs, face and buttocks/groin.

NotintheMiddle · 23/11/2013 11:47

The thing is most of his spots are on his body. None around his mouth or on his hands and feet ... Not hives either.

He is prone to odd rashes - he had one when he was born (can't remember what they said it was) and he had a really strange one when he was a toddler - big raised patches.

If it was a mild chickenpox then we will know in a couple of weeks because his little brother hasn't had it.

Ah. Now it doesn't sound like HF&M!

EustaciaVye · 23/11/2013 20:33

are the spots all close together? shingles?

NotintheMiddle · 24/11/2013 13:01

Spread out, but think they have all faded now. maybe he was bitten by something Shock

Do have a look at pics of Roseola as a lot of the symptoms fit - short fever before the rash, rash on body which goes fairly quickly, raised pimply rash.

NotintheMiddle · 24/11/2013 19:54

Thanks, didn't mean to ignore Roseola. When I googled it looked more like a pink bumpy rash rather than a few individual spots but it is so hard to tell on photos on the screen.

This sounds like my dd's spots, I have just posted about them as they are very obviously there but are only (so far) on her face. They aren't blisters either just red spots, four or five but I think she had two yesterday. She also had a fever which now seems to have gone.
