Would you take your child to the doctor with a rash?

My 7 yo daughter developed a rash on her legs last week. It didn't disappear under a glass, but she had no other symptoms. We ummed and ahed a bit and took her to see the GP. They're a bit baffled, have basically told us to keep an eye on it any watch out for other symptoms.

Their main suspicion is HSP, which is a pretty rare thing for which my son was also tested when he was a toddler. Again, no other symptoms, and it went away again without further issues.

On both occasions, we've been told that this kind of rash without other symptoms is rare, and they're a bit astonished that both of our children have presented with it, given it is not generally familial. So I was wondering whether the fact they see it so rarely is down to the fact that most people wouldn't have taken a child in with just a rash and no other symptoms. Would you have taken your child in?

I have done. Showed her the rash and asked, "Is this anything I need to worry about?"

Every time, I don't think you can be sure a rash isn't symptomatic of something else that needs to be treated.

I think I would, personally, see what the child was like and wait a day or two. My doctor said it is the condition of the child not the rash that is the worry. Also depends on how old child is and family history.

Not a normal rash but one that wouldn't blanch, yes.

Thanks all. Looks like I'm not being entirely paranoid ...

I have done several times:
Dd1 when she had hand foot and mouth, the rash was all the way up her legs though.
Dd2: It was scarlet fever-and I knew it was, but that is still (visibly) just a rash as she didn't seem ill with it.
Ds many many times! He gets a viral rash. I have taken him in for huge spots 1p-2p size all over his legs, bright red spots varying in size from 0.5mm upwards, and the time, and the tiny pin rash that was coming out as I looked at it (in the 5 minute appointment time it spread downwards from his forehead down to his shoulders). None of which fade under pressure.
I didn't take him when he had just tiny spots (still non-fading) on his face and arms as he was obviously okay. For some reason he gets these viral rashes and has done from 10 weeks old. Neither of the girls has ever had one.
