Why on earth would you make children's medicine aniseed flavour?!

And not just a hint of flavour either, licking the spoon was taking a shot of sambuca!

Dd (2.5) won't touch it and it tasted so strong that it can't be disguised by anything, she must've only had 3mls over 3 days instead of the prescribed 5mls twice a day!

Needed a bit of a rant, as if it's not hard enough to get a toddler to take medicine in the first place!

PLUS I tried using the calpol syringe when I realised the spoon was a no go so now she won't take calpol either because she doesn't trust me not to spike her!

I would imagine it's because the medicine is so vile-tasting that they can't disguise it with anything other than aniseed.

You could try having you daughter suck on an ice-pop before and immediately after the medicine.

I'll try that Isildur she can have one now for pudding :)

I used to have to bribe DS with chocolate buttons to get him to take medicine when he was about that age.

It might be worth putting the medicine in a spoon and getting her to have a spoon of ice cream syrup directly after. Line them up side by side. The 'con' of letting them choose which flavour, and the fact the syrup takes a bit of swallowing, seemed to do the trick for my two. Staawberry worked the best I am informed by DT1.

Can you ask the pharmacist/call the GP and try to get a different one prescribed?

DS was prescribed a vile-tasting antibiotic that made him vomit. The pharmacist told us it was crazy to prescribe it for a child. Within 24 hours we had a new prescription for one DS would tolerate.

is it for a UTI? I used to let ds have a minty chewing gum as a reward for taking that medicine
