10mth Swallowed Star Shaped Plastic Confetti - Anyone else's done the same?

My LO swallowed one of those sparkly glitter starts - about 1/2 size of a 5p - we went to A&E and it has seemed to have gone all the way down, but not reappeared in her nappy and it has been over 24hrs.

I was interested to know if anyone else's little one has swallowed those same type of stars, or other shaped table confetti?

It is quite tough plastic so if it does not reappear I am worried it might be lodged in her insides and cause trouble in the future. It would be good to hear from other people who have have been in the same situation and if the confetti reappeared and when.

Thanks

Dd2 drank a whole tub of glitter once at about 15 months. Stupidly I put them in a old yoghurt pot when dd1 was doing it, and dd2 thought it was yoghurt...
She had very pretty nappies for quite a long time (2-3 days if I remember rightly).

I feel for you - you must be worried. What did A&E say? I was in almost this situation when my DS was about 20 months. In our case, it was at a wedding and there was an awful lot of sharp table confetti around. Despite trying to watch him like a hawk, I thought DS managed to swallow one, as I pulled a piece out of his mouth but worried he might have eaten one as well in the few seconds where another wedding guest was talking to me.

In a panic, I asked my Dad (who is a retired GP and was conveniently at the wedding), and he was a little concerned as the confetti in question was very sharp and could have caused damage inside. He thought it was unlikely DS would have swallowed it, as it was very angular and sharp and if he had, I would probably know about it as he would be in some discomfort.

He told us to keep the piece (to potentially show at the doctor/A&E) and if DS showed any signs of discomfort, to take him in.

In the end DS was fine and I never saw the piece emerge the other end, so am presuming he didn't swallow it (he is nearly 4 now).

Are you certain your DD did swallow it?

Yeah, I saw it in her mouth but could not get it out, then she was crying and then fine - I definitely think it went down:(

She is totally fine in herself, and was not wheezing or majorly coughing afterwards.

A&E said to wait for it to come out, but it has been over 48 hours and still no show, I have left a msg with the DR as not sure what happens next. I am hoping and praying it is not lodged in her stomach or bowels, or even worst that she breath it down her airpipe.

Urgh...motherhood is so stressful at times:(

Thanks for your replies:)

Hi what happened my son has just swallowed a plastic confetti??

Just seen the above messages - she was fine, I checked nappies for month and never saw it and she is a healthy tween now!

I just read about the boy that swallowed a Googly Eye in the paper, and it reminded me:(

It still now worries me it is lodged somewhere and will cause damage in the future somehow, but I am a bit of worrier!

Anyone that it happens to their child, as a precaution and after reading about the googly eye incident, def just go to doctors or A&E as a precaution but likelihood like my girl all will be fine:)
