Scarlet fever - should school tell parents

There have been several cases of scarlet fever at my child's school. I know through the grapevine from a parent who knows a parent. Shouldn't the school be telling the parents?

It would be kind to, saves parents and gps having to guess the mystery rash each time.

I have seen notices up in nurseries here when it's been around.

Our school sent an email just reassuring parents when it went round.

It does surface in clusters and would be useful for parents to be aware.

It's a common bacteria but not usual to turn into SF. But definitely worth knowing about because the children can get so poorly.

Also the link with impetigo should be mentioned. A child in DD's class was at school with impetigo, untreated. People seemed oblivious.

Thanks for the messages. I have been told scarlet fever is a 'notifiable disease' so I thought the school would have a legal obligation to notify parents?

Notifiable means it needs to be reported to local government.

It's a strep infection with added meanness.
