cpox like spots but not cpox

DS (4) has been a bit 'off' the past week or so - nothing major, low level snots and not as bouncy as usual, bit picky with food on a couple of days etc and said he felt poorly/tired a few times, but no temp (well not obvious one -didn't actially check) and still enjoying pre school etc.

Anyway -he's come out with a few spots that are a bit perplexing. They are red and raised and a couple of them are blistery like cpox.
He has about 10-15max dotted around legs, arm/hand and face - pics on profile page.

He definitely had unmistakable chicken pox last Xmas - but the only thing Google is throwing up that describes these spots is cpox.

Any ideas? Do I need to bother with gp?

Could be hand foot and mouth?

Spots like cpox usually mainly around hands feet and mouth, can be inside mouth

Oh and I have heard of people getting the spots in other random places too

You can also get chicken pox more than once btw I think your more likely to get it again if very young when first had it

I think it's hand, foot and mouth disease. Very contagious in under fives but mostly harmless. Generally illness symptoms just as you have described and I always think it should be called hand, foot, mouth and bottom as I often see it down the backs of children's legs and in the nappy area.

The spots look just like the start of chicken pox and he can get ulcers in his mouth. Have a look on NHS patient website and see if its sounds familiar.

Molluscum also looks a lot like chicken pox. Best get it checked out by GP.

Actually it does match hand foot and mouth the closest - he has a sort of sore in corner of his mouth which I just presumed as due to dry cracked lips (mouth breathing due to congestion at night).

Though maybe not a classic case this time - he had it when he was about 12mnths but def had proper mouth ulcers as well then. Didn't realise you could get it again and it's a bit different from then so didn't occur to me.

Well he's fairly well in himself -appetite def back and wants to go to preschool tomorrow (only goes tue wed thurs) so all good.

You know you can get Cpox more than once?
FWIW our GP trainee misdignosed DS's CPox as molluscum, so it seems that they are commonly confused.

Pretty sure it isn't cpox even if you can get it twice (which I also didn't know, so thanks!) - spots just aren't that distinctive. The one near his wrist on the pic in my profile is the largest and it's v small compared to any of the cpox ones he had.

My ds had hand foot and mouth with no ulcers in his mouth, thank god!

looks like hand foot and mouth to me. We all had it over the summer and the spots looked just like that, plus we had flu like symptoms too
