I mean, properly, where-does-it-all-come-from sick, but not all the time. It's now Sunday, and it started on thurs night, when she'd had her tea and milk, and been in bed for about 20 mins. Heard a bit of shocked crying on the monitor, ran upstairs and there was vomit EVERYWHERE. Cleaned her up, and she slept well. Wasn't sick all day Friday, but then sick again during bedtime milk on Friday. Then sick at breakfast AND lunch on Sat. Fine Saturday night, and all day Sunday, and seemed to have perked up from being a bit subdued. But now she's just been sick again while having bedtime milk. What do you think I should do? What is it? Any advice much appreciated.

I would avoid food for the while. Is she breastfed? if so a little and often but her tummy needs to recover - avoid anything dairy. Hope she feels better soon.

Thanks so much for your reply. No, not breastfed anymore, formula all the way. So you think I should just stop food and only give formula for a bit?

I'm not great on the formula thing as both mine were bf - I think they recommend no food for 6 hours after a vomit then small amounts of fluid. Personally I leave dcs for 24 hours before I give solids, then start with rice cakes and very plain foods. Keep small amounts of fluids going in. Hopefully someone who knows more about formula will come by and advise. Likely it is a bug which should pass quickly.

V helpful, thank you very much. ONE more question- when you say "plain foods", what are we talking? Gave a bit of banana yesterday, did NOT go down well!

Rice cakes, dry toast, grated apple. Use a syringe to measure small amounts of fluid if she is still being sick. Banana often an early one to introduce... clearly her tummy needing a break! You'll see the BRAT diet talked about on here - banana, rice, apple, toast. Those little apple rice cakes are always a good one to start one IME as they are small and a bit sugary for energy. Some people swear by ice pops but she may be a bit little for that.

Wishing you a more peaceful night!

Got some of those. Will try when she's stopped being sick. Thank you!

How is she this morning Shatter?

ShatterResistant · 12/11/2013 21:58

It's very kind of you to ask. I took her to the doctor yesterday, who said it was a "viral infection" which was slow and steady rather than fast and aggressive. And she's much better today- no vomiting, and no diarrhea since yesterday. So I reckon one more day of starvation rations, and she'll be set. Fingers crossed! (Apple rice cakes went down v well, not so much the actual rice I lovingly cooked and mashed...)
