Should I be worried? He's had very little fluid today, maybe 6 small a sips in total since a good feed of milk at 6:40 this morning, although he did eat some frontage frais. I'm worries about such a LOW temp now although I don't know what a low temperature means

How about a calpol syringe, can you get some water into him using that? If he"s had so little through the day then any fluid he will take will help him to rehydrate.

TeamSouthfields · 10/11/2013 00:22

he needs more fluid.. try 5ml of fluid of any kind, water, milk, juice, in a syringe into the side of his mouth every 10 minutes.. This is what I had to do once with 13 month old, for hours..

If his breathing is different in any way, plus take him to a&e, not worth the risk

How is he this morning OP?

LovesBeingHereAgain · 10/11/2013 07:57

Hi op have just seen this. Gp told me tgat below 35 is a get to tge doctor Jobbie, glad it changed.

Tge lack of fluids is a concern though, will he drink squash? It might not be what you'd want to give him but he has to drink more today.

Here is a lot of information about human temperature, its variations and reasons thereof

I hope he is better today, gd.

Because of the natural variation of body temperature during the day, a lot of ill children look better in the morning and are worse in the afternoon/evening; fevers usually 'break' in the night. I have more than once found my kids in a giant pool of sweat at 3 am Grin.

Yes, low temperature can be a sign of sepsis, but is not a common thing.
Keep giving him Calpol and encourage him to drink. Hospitals offer children with D+V 5mls (teaspoon) of water every 5 min - if they cannot manage that, they need a drip. So its not vast quantities, just sips v frequently. The priority is that he keeps weeing.

Hope you have a good day today.

Thank you all so much, its so reassuring to have your advice. He is much perkier today, and his temp has been ok, only gone up once and came back down with nurofen. Fingers crossed for tonight! Managed to get fluid down today in the firm of apple juice, so that's good x

I use the ear thermometer either under ds's arm or on his forehead. He has glue ear, and that effects the reading I find.

But ds, with a temperature does go very low briefly after a high temperature, but he goes back to normal fairly quickly afterwards.
