Toddler with spotty rash, blister on tongue, normal temp

DD is 13 months and since last night has a mild red spotty rash (pin prick) across her body. There are actual raised spots on some of her fingers and nappy area. Nothing on her face but she has a white/greyish blister/ulcer on the tip of her tongue. She has had a cold for the past week, nose still snotty and coughs occasionally.

Took her to a GP this morning. He briefly looked at her hand and I pulled up her top to show a bit of her body and then he took her temperature, which showed as normal. He said he didn't think it was bacterial, she may have a post viral rash but didn't seem to think it was much and wrote out a prescription for hydrocortizone ointment to put on the rash. Said to go back if the rash hadn't gone in a week.

Does this sound right? This is a new surgery as we have recently moved. I wondered if it might be hand, foot & mouth with the hand spots and tongue blister coming up but the GP looked surprised when I asked about it. Basically if she has no temperature and seems otherwise normal, it's nothing to worry about?

There are all sorts of viruses out there that can do this. It could be hand foot and mouth - or something else. Being a parent you may even discover some over the next few years that you have never heard of (slapped cheek, molluscum...) In 12 years, my kids have been given anti viral medicine only once, and that was for a fairly serious case of shingles; most of the time the approach seems to be to just treat any symptoms (creams for rashes; calpol or whatever for high temperature), and wait for the immune system to deal with it (everything they catch makes it stronger, I guess!). Be aware of the signs of meningitis, and act quickly when you see them (I used to have them on a little card in the medicine cabinet). Take care xx

Hand foot and mouth is certainly doing the rounds here, I've just had it - the blisters were sort of grey and oval shaped , started off as red spots which were flat.

I had severe tonsilitis too so felt rotten but once that was treated I was fine and not overly ill with the HFM tbh. The NHS say don't quarantine though I wouldn't go near other kids tbh like at toddlers or soft play etc.

To my untrained mind I'd say it sounds like she's had a cold, got a post viral rash and also got HFM. Just keep her fluids up and give meds if in discomfort.
