Alternative bedding for wheezy bubs

Hi all, my 1.5yr old has recently been diagnosed as a ‘happy wheezer’ – eg every time he gets a cold he gets inflammation in his lungs requiring shedloads of ventolin, steroids, and frequent trips to hospital.
Apart from making my whole family profoundly un-‘happy’, it occurs to me that he sleeps best in his car seat, but obvs he can’t stay in there all night. Last year whenever he had a cold he slept in his baby bjorn bouncer (still one of my all time baby kit faves) but he is much too big and heavy for this now.
Does anyone have any suggestions for alternative/upright sleeping arrangements for a 2 stone toddler? We keep propping him up in bed but it just doesn’t seem to be as effective. At the moment I am having to wake both myself and DS up every 4 hours to give him his inhaler. If I can even slightly improve this situation I am keen to do so, since our colds don’t really clear up until April…
Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

Why are you waking him every 4 hours? DS has severe asthma and I have only been told to do that when he is really ill (ie in hospital) otherwise its just when it wakes him (which it does regularly!)

You can buy bed blocks to properly prop up the cot which is what I found worked best for DS when he was in a cot that and keeping well on top of the damp dusting and making sure everything was super clean.

If you are having ongoing issues does he have a preventer inahler?

He has a brown steroid inhaler as well. I am not sure what is going on really - we have very little in the way of athsma or allergies in the family. He has had croup twice in the last 6 months; these recent breathing difficulties look milder but the docs kept him in hospital for 3 days because his oxygen levels were dropping down to around the 80-85 mark when he was asleep. The first time I took him to the GP who said 'take him to hospital immediately' but last night's 7 hour trip to hospital was basically a waste of time. And every doctor tells us something different about how serious it is. Last night both doctors said there was no wheeze in his chest, but they put him on 3 days of oral steroids. They told me to bring him to hospital if there is any sign of chest recession, but don't think that it is worth investigating (even privately) why he has developed this problem.

We are not even sure whether he has true athsma, or whether he has a slight disposition to wheeziness that will clear up. There seemed to be a lot of bubs in hospital during the first trip with the same symptoms as DS2 so it may even be a viral thing that is just going to take a while to clear up. I agree that it seems a vast amount of medication, and neither he nor I are fans of sleep deprivation. The doctors seem happy to give him these big doses of ventolin, and tbh I am too scared about getting it wrong to feel confident about what I am doing.

I will look into bed blocks. Thanks for the advice.
