DD with temp - can't think straight!

My DD has a temp of 38.3 at the moment. She had calpol 1hr ago. She's asleep in bed, but has been quite lethargic and sleepy all day. She is 11 months old. My DH had a throat infection last weekend and into this week, so I'm wondering if it's that? Should I be calling OOH doc for a temp that high? We are checking it every 30 mins.

I am stressed about it as she was in hospital in July with gastroenteritis and low blood sugar and this is bringing it all back!

Its the first time she's ever had a temperature!

Any advice welcome.
TIA

38.3 isn't a very high temperature - what was it before meds? Is her breathing ok? Has she been drinking ok?

Try and go more by how she is / has been in herself, if you would want to get her seen based on that then do so but don't necessarily panic because of the temp.

She's only little so if you want her seen then get her seen no doctor worth their salt would mind.

It's always horrible when they are young and ill.

Hopefully this NHS link will be helpful for you [http://www.nhs.uk/Conditions/pregnancy-and-baby/Pages/treating-high-temperature-children.aspx#close]. It gives some guidance about self help to bring temperatures in infants down and when to contact a doctor. Personally at that level in an 11 month old i wouldnt be too concerned but i would keep monitoring it/maybe give calpol.

It is quite likely that she has picked up your DHs throat infection, which would explain her being sleepy all day as she tries to fight off the virus, but if you feel overly concerned follow your gut instinct and contact NHS direct.

I hope you manage to get some sleep tonight.

Thanks. I just get so worked up I can't think! Her temp was about 38.7 before calpol. DH has just checked again and it's 37.8. So going in the right direction. Thanks for your advice and reassurance. I think I just have to play it by ear (and CALM DOWN!)
