What do I do about a verruca?

My 5 year old has one on the sole of her foot, she says it hurts (if I ask) but I don't think it does because she runs around on it and never complains.

What is the current advice, should I just leave it? She has weekly swimming lessons btw.

You should at least be covering it for summing as they are catching.

DD1 has one and we are using bazooka on it.

Swimming not summing

Lovemy3kids · 03/11/2013 17:58

DD gets verrucas from time to time and we use bazooka every time.....works a treat and agree that it should be covered over when swimming :)

Can I just leave it to go away on it's own? (off to buy verruca sock)

I painted my ds's with very dark nail varnish it went in a week.

You do need to treat it or it will get worse. My dd swims and gets them all the time.

Dollydowser · 03/11/2013 20:35

Duct tape.

Wartner works. Just got rid of a huge one on dds foot in a week.

Canthisonebeused · 03/11/2013 20:40

I was just about to post that my dds instructor suggested not to cover the verruca. I never cover dds.

this may be of interest.

Duct tape is supposed to be good as the dark and lack of air kill the black bits apparently.

I got rid of mine by digging around with a pair of tweezers and actually pulling the black bits out. Have no idea if this is a good idea but worked for me.

I had a verruca myself about 20 years ago, I saw a chiropodist about it. First he asked if it was painful or troubled me some way, I said no. He said that he could treat it and it would go away but advised to just leave it and it will go away on it's own after about two years leaving me immune to verrucas. This was 20 years ago though and dealing with an adult.

DS used to get them a lot, nothing really seemed to work, he grew out of them by about 14. DH and I never used to catch them though from the shower and DS had loads. Occasionally they would drop out.

We got rid of ours with neat tea tree oil, put on with a cotton bud every evening for a few weeks and it shrank and disappeared.

Duct tape - works a treat as it contains the same acid in the glue as over the counter treatments like Bazooka. Put it on and leave for a few days. Remove. File down the verucca with a nail file. Reapply duct tape. Should be gone in a couple of weeks. It turns black very quickly. Make sure you don't use the nail file for anything else and keep the verucca covered when around others as they are contagious. They are a type of wart and appear due to changes during adolescence. They are less common as you age as your body gets stronger at repelling them (something to do with vitamin E I think). Must be proper (silver) duct tape, not just any old tape.
