6 year old - Soft tissue damage to foot

My 6yo twisted her foot last weekend and an xray showed nothing broken just soft tissue damage. She is still limping today, not all the time just if she has walked for a while.

Im going to ask the school to excuse her from PE this week but will she need longer? Is there anything I can do to help it heal or is a case of resting when she can?

DS did some soft tissue damage atabout 18 months. It took about 3 weeks before he was walking normally. I'd play pe by a week at a time.

I agree with DeWe. My daughter fell down stairs when she was 9 and it took about 2 weeks if not slightly longer. She needs to take it easy but not immobilise it totally. She needs to rest about a week then build strength up slowly.

Thanks DeWe, I didnt realise it could take so long.

Thanks Captainbarnacles, I try to make her rest it but its difficult! At least she will be back at school this week so will have to sit down for her work!

2-3 weeks is normal for ankles still to hurt/be very easy to twist again. It's very tedious and very embarrassing to explain to school that DD won't be in because she's turned her ankle over again and their huge site is just not limp-able.

Both DDs have managed this. DD1 because she has my grotty ankles (much better since the dr sent her to the physio and she got some exercises). DD2 because she hurts herself at gym and then trampolines for hours. DD2 is very clever and totally lacking in common sense, sometimes.

In fact we have had far less pain and days off school with broken arms, than badly sprained ankles.
