7yo tummy ache

My 7yo dd has had a tummy ache on and off for a few days. She will be fine most of the day and then she goes down with a tummy ache.
Today she has had tummy ache all day and tbh i'm quite worried as this isn't accompanied by a high temperature so can she be ill with no temperature?

She has been off her food today and wanting to spend the day in her bedroom, reluctant to come downstairs.
She has just had some calpol but that doesn't seem to be working.

Obviously doctors on monday as she isn't herself.

Any opinions to what this might be? She hasn't been sick or had diarreah, but she does say she is having trouble burping. Looked up google and it doesn't say much about older children having wind.

Can wind cause days of feeling ill?

Tia x

Constipation? Scared of school?
Agree, see GP on monday.

Thanks Trish she remains pretty much the same today and has not eaten her lunch nor been downstairs for most of the day.

She was hyper and playing with her sisters early this morning, came down for breakfast but she then started complaining of tummy ache again, still no temp...

She doesnt have sweets or food in her bedroom does she?

pumpkinsweetie · 03/11/2013 13:40

No she isn't allowed any food in her room, but will check just incase.
She is allowed sweets so i don't see her needing to hide them from me.

Was it after eating breakfast that it was worse? Have you tried something like Gaviscon ( I'm not sure what age children can start to have it). My 12 year old dd is currently having tummy troubles, so I really feel for you!

No doesn't seem to be, just went up for a chat with her and she has told me she has been having trouble doing a poo and is worried about going back to school as she is finding the work too hard (juniors started sept) and that she is getting peer pressure from 2 bad behaved children to join in with their schemes of naughtyness. So it's a combination of both, will still get her to the doctors as some lactulose may help.

You can buy lactulose over counter.
Didn't know if you knew

Castlecellar · 03/11/2013 16:19

Lactulose will certainly help with the poo, unfortunately the badly behaved children will take some more work. Hopefully now she has talked to you about it, it will relieve the pressure on her slightly. Good luck and I hope she feels better soon :)

Ah, glad you have found that out about school.
If you put constipation into search, there are several things that people recommend. I put mine on AllBran [look at fibre readings on the back of the packs], but I appreciate that getting all children to eat AllBran may not work. For mine, it used to solve the problem in 2 hours.
And I dont like to advise someone on here not to go to the GP. You have all the facts whereas we dont.

ShoeWhore · 03/11/2013 16:26

Glad to hear she's opened up to you OP. tummy aches in our house are nearly always caused by trouble at school or needing a poo.

Hope you can get it sorted soon.

pumpkinsweetie · 03/11/2013 17:38

Thankyou everyone, she has managed to go to toilet now, so provided no more tummy ache going to send her to school like normal, fetch her some lactulose from boots and then speak to the teacher after school to see if she can be kept away from the two girls.
