Inflamed eye and fever

My 5 year old has an inflamed eye, had it for a few days now and after school started complaining of sore joints. He is v pale and has had 3 fevers in the past month. First we reckoned was hand food and mout, second unknown as it went after a few days and now he has this eye thing. He was back at school this Monday (just started school in fact). The eye thing started before we went back but we were in centerparcs. Is this usual???? So many viral things in such a short space of time?? I have asked if dr will see him tonight as emergency appointments can only be made in the morning but no guarantees they'll see him. If not, will make it tomorrow but just heard him whimpering he has a sore eye. Eeek help?

Ps he has been at nursery since 6 months of age and he has suffered relatively little in the past couple of years. He has had many of the common infections

Poor little boy. Sad It could be post viral or reactive arthritis. I would wait for a GP appt and perhaps ask for a referral to a rheumatologist? I'm not trying to scare you but it's best to get things like juvenile arthritis ruled out. Fingers crossed that it's just a nasty viral thing.

Hi he has an abscess in his tear duct so has got some antibiotics. He is a pale boy and complains a lot of sore joints. We have autoimmune diseases that run in the family including rheumatoid arthritis (and ulcerative colitis for me, lupus in a cousin etc) but I hope not at such a young age! Thx

It's definitely worth a rheumatologist appt then but I really hope it's not! Post viral illnesses can be so horrible, so hopefully it's 'only' that and that he'll perk up soon. Flowers

Its fairly common to get a conjunctivitis with many cold/fluey things as the virus can travel to the eye through the nose, it is more usual for it to be in both eyes though.

Do have a look at him tonight and see if one of his pupils though is a significantly different size to the other one. You will need to check it in normal light rather than sunlight.
Some arthritic conditions can cause a eye condition called uveititis. This needs to be taken into A&E in the morning as your G.P will be unable to treat it.
