Ds being sick every weekend...

DS (6yo) has been sick the last three weekends running and I'm getting really worried. He is sick in the middle of the night and then fine in the morning, eating normally etc. He hasn't eaten the same thing each time, haven't done the same things, he isn't worried about anything, no allergies... there's really no explanation for it. There are no sickness bugs going round at school either.

We're going to the GP tommorrow but I'm getting really worried...

He has swimming on Sunday mornings and he gets a bit nervous about that but this weekend he was sick the night after swimming... and he's been nervous about swimming forever yet never sick.

drop the swimming for couple weeks and see what happens

tell him you takin a break from swimming

DS1 had diarrhoea every week before swimming because it was stressing him out so much.

We stopped because it was not worth making him so upset over it.

Is it possible he picked up a bug in the water, and this caused the actual sickness? Then, because being sick is so awful he may be associating it with going swimming, and the sickness is psychosomatic?

FoodieToo · 22/10/2013 22:51

Not the same I know because of timing but one of my boys used to vomit or feel ill every Friday after school swimming.
I blamed something in the water or a sensitivity to chlorine .

There hs to be some common denominator here?? Nothing you can think of?

Try not to worry.

I suppose it still could be nerves even though swimming was over - he got very wound up that morning so he could've been suffering from that later on. The GP wasn't worried and said it's probably a virus but it's a very strange virus that only makes you sick once a week for 3 weeks and you are fine in between. He ruled out the think I was really scared about though so that's good :) We have told DS he doesn't have to go swimming for a few weeks, to see if that helps.

Hi. My son has cyclical vomitting syndrome where he will be sick very early in the morning and it tends to last a couple of hours then he totally recovers till the next time. At first it happened every 2 weeks then slowed down to less than that. Is your son only sick the once when he wakes up?

DoubleDoubleTwigletTrouble · 24/10/2013 09:11

Hi PJ67, I had Googled CVS and wondered if it was that! He is sick a few times over about an hour in the middle of the night and then goes back to sleep and is fine. How long has this been going on with your son and how often is he sick now?

Hi. My son has just turned 14 and has probably had this for 4 or 5 years. At first he would wake around 5 or 6 am and was sick on and off for 3 or 4 hours then would recover. This happened every 2 to 3 weeks for about 6 months then went down to 2 or 3 times a year. Last year there were 4 or 5 months when it got more frequent again but it now happens when he wakes in the morning at 7 or 8 ish but always the similar pattern. We did eventually get referred to paediatrics at first but they weren't much help. Last year however after doing some research I asked to be referred to a paediatric gastroenterologist and she was great. She did loads of tests to rule out rare causes and prescribed a tablet that dissolves on the tongue and reduces the nausea and the length of time he is sick for.

I haven't really worked out triggers but I think sometimes over eating, especially greasy food or stress and tiredness may bring it on.
Try to monitor it for a while and keep a diary to see if a pattern emerges.
