hello, i am about to move for part of the week to wiltshire but am officially registered in london, doctor included. if my 20 month old daughter was to get sick, could i go to a doctor in wiltshire? obviously i could go to a and e in an emergency, but could i go to a gp for a pressing, but not life-threatening thing? one can't possibly register in two counties i am sure? does anyone else live in 2 places and have this issue? if so i would also be very grateful to know if you also registered in a pre school and a primary school in the 'non-official' residence catchment area. thankyou!! x

Yes, you can sign on as a temporary resident at a GP surgery, but it's up to them if they will take you.

thankyou. do you know if that would mean my and my baby's notes would leave my london doctor's, and i would then have trouble re-registering or getting an appointment in london, or do they duplicate/copy the notes so you can essentially see both doctors? best, laura

Your notes will not leave your surgery in London. You will still be registered there so will have no trouble getting seen when you get home. You can see a wiltshire gp for the area that covers where you are staying - just call 111 if you or your child are ill and they will arrange for you to be seen .

The gps in wiltshire will not be able to access your notes

Aren't notes now on a central database? I thought that was part of the point in having them computerised. When dd1 had had pneumonia and was getting better, but still having antibiotics and needing regular check ups, we went up to my parents (with our GP consent) and he wrote on her notes what needed checking, and which antibiotics (less strong) he thought would be best for the next stage if she was recovered enough.

depends if that gp practise/walkine/ whatever service you are using have the database installed - not all do yet .

thanks all
