HPV vaccine - yes or no?

Had the letter from school re dd - not realised it would be so soon. Not read anything that would persuade me to let her have it - no evidence it works and too many bad after effects plus it has only been tested on 15yrs+ not 12 yr olds!

Comments please?

My DD1 and DD2 have both had the injection. So far they have had no bad effects from having it. DD3 will have it next year when she is old enough.

My mum has had cervical cancer which resulted in a hysterectomy. She would be all the reason I need. No-one should go through what she did. I also have friends who regularly have to have pre-cancerous cells removed from their cervix because they have been exposed to HPV.

There is plenty of evidence it works - albeit no-one is yet certain for how long.

I would have it and I hope they make it available for boys as well.

My dd has just had it. I have seen very little about adverse reactions and therefore thought she should go ahead. She is healthy, no underlying conditions, and I am strongly in favour of vaccinations.

There's a paper somewhere from Australia showing that HPV infections picked up in one GUM clinic has reduced to virtually 0 in age groups young enough to have been vaccinated. Whether that lasts I don't know. Whether it translates into reduced numbers of cervical cancer in the future remains to be seen, but I see no reason why it shouldn't.

I agree with a previous poster who said they would have it themselves if it were available.
