Sore heads in 4 year old

Hi. My 4 year old has said 'I have a sore head' 3 or 4 times in the last couple of weeks. He has also said his neck was sore once. He doesn't seem to be unwell when he says this however and it has been when we have been in the car. He will then be running about as usual and when I say is your head still sore he'll say yes for an hour or so.

I'm a bit of a worrier and already worrying about a brain tumour! Is it unusual for a child this age to say they have a sore head? It's obviously not very sore and it's hard to know if he is just getting a twinge then saying it's still sore when I ask.

My DS3 from the age of 3 (now 4) used to complain regularly that he had a sore leg. Panicked like crazy. But I soon realised it was when he was tired or out of sorts. It was his way of telling me something wasn't right.

Hope that's all it is for you.

I get this from my DD too, she is 4. It's been in the last few months, sore head, sore neck, sore tummy. I did take her to GP, all seems fine and he can be easily distracted from it, it's worrying though, I agree.

I have noticed that the symptoms mostly appear in my company as opposed to DH or my mum. Think maybe I react to it with more concern than they do.

Hi. I also notice that my son tells me more than other people and I definitely react and ask him loads of questions as I get quite anxious (trying not to do this). Tonight when getting their story my older son said he had a sore tummy and a few minutes later my 4 yr old said he had a sore head when he was at his gran's today. He didn't tell his gran however and she said he was fine all day. I'm not sure if this was for attention but I'm worried he did have a sore head otherwise he may have just said I have a sore head there and then. Just not sure how worried to be.

If it helps my DS did/does have a brain tumour. His symptoms were mild but frequent headaches but always in the same place that he could pinpoint. His walking went wobbly - a bit like he had drunk a couple of glasses of wine. He then started to vomit one morning but it did not smell of sick. His left eye had a very pronounced tremor when asked to look far to his side.

My biggest thing was that I had a gut instinct that something was not right. None of the symptoms alone were much but put together over a relatively short space of time (two weeks) something told me something was not right.

Brain tumours are very rare. It's much more likely to be tiredness. But listen to your gut instinct. If you are worried visit your GP.

Another thing to think about is getting his eyes tested. DD1 had headaches at the same age, and it turned out she has inherited my crap eyesight and needed specs. Now, as soon as she complains of a headache, we're off to the optician and it's almost always that she needs her prescription changed.

My DS was getting lots of headaches when he was 8. He had also had recent febrile convulsions and sometimes complained of blurry eyes. Hospital did every test imaginable. Full eye tests at the ophthalmic clinic,MRI scan, ECGs and it turned out to be sinusitis.
