Molloscum

DD is 4 and has what I think are two molloscum spots on her stomach. I am pretty sure that's what they are.

Is there anything I can do at this stage to get rid of them I.e. get in early to avoid them getting worse?

Also can they spread if children share a bath?

I have a one year old and they usually bathe together.

Thanks.

Yes, there is a way. Go to a dermatologist and get them scraped. It takes one minute.

My DD had it done. They went away completely and didn't return.

DD bathed with DS for ages before we realized that it was MC and got treatment. DS didn't get it.

Finlaggan I have a 4 year old DD with MC too. As CoteDAzur says you can have them scraped / frozen by a dermatologist. We live in the US and dermatologists here don't tend to do that unless they are very bad. They do tend to spread pretty easily. Here is the advice we were given to try and control the spread of the infection.........

They spread by rubbing / touching the spots then somewhere else on your body. This happens more easily in water. We were told to avoid bathing siblings together but in fact we now shower DD rather than bathe so that she's not sitting in the water. We were told she could carry on swimming but best to cover any spots with a waterproof plaster and not share floats etc with others. They can also spread via infected clothing / toys etc. To minimise this as much as possible DD wears clothes which cover her spots - we have been lucky enough to be able to do this so far. This prevents her touching them and reinfecting herself and others and also her skin rubbing against itself - for example she always wears PJs instead of a nightie as they are mostly on her legs. I also wash clothes and towels after only one use.

There are various topical things you can use on them. We have used an ointment called Zymaderm which is available at the chemist here. Its a blend of tea tree and lemon mrytle and thuja. Its painless - you just dab it on every morning night. After using this for about a month DDs spots started to go red and scab over one by one. She now only has one left and I'm hoping that she won't get any new ones. I think there are various similar things around in the UK. My doctor told me that the trick is to get the immune system to recognise the virus by irritating the spots then it will kick in and gradually get rid of them. DD has had the virus about 7 months and had about 15 spots at its peak. Other things I have heard of working are......apple cider vinegar (although stings), benzol peroxide (sp) 10% cream (usually used for acne), zovoirax (sp?) for cold sores, straight tea tree oil and colloidal silver spray.

Other tips include using a tea tree based soap/ shower gel (I use Dr Bronners its great) , giving a multivitamin. There is another thread on here somewhere where people are using molludab which i think is similar to benzol peroxide.

Good luck! I know at times I've been really stressed about this virus - irrationally so considering others are dealing with much worse.
