Chickenpox or shingles (2nd time.....)

Sorry ANOTHER cp thread. My dd who is 3 had cp aged 9 months at the same time as my older DS. She had it pretty bad, especially all over her bottom poor thing. CP outbreak at nursery and most of her class have been off with it in the last week or so. So I noticed this evening in her bath that she has a 1 inch red rash (not pox) on her bottom and 1 small pox below it and 1pox above it. No temp, no cold, nothing.....no other pox anywhere else. Is this likely to be shingles rather than full blown cp, or maybe just mild cp? Remind me how many days this is going to last?!

if it stays localised following the line of a nerve then it could be shingles. Childhood shingles is more common in children who have chicken pox under 1 year. My ds had chicken pox under 6 months and shingles at age 3.

Right so got her up, no temp, barely any rash left, and just 2 tiny pox......how long should I keep her home or should this last?

you can get hand foot and mouth spots on the buttocks, any of that around locally?

don't think so.....spoke to NHS Direct, who think it's shingles too, now just waiting to speak to GP - never an easy task in our parts!

if the rash can be covered then you dont have the same exclusion as for chicken pox as shingles can only transmit chicken pox through direct contact with fluid from the blisters.

Update - saw GP this morning who is unsure. Says it could be shingles, but could be molloscum. No new spots, so says to keep close eye on her today, and if no more developments to send her into nursery.....
