Chronic chest infections advice please!

Hi, dd has a long history of chest problems, including a one month stay in hospital with severe pneumonia, followed by 6 months of daily nurse visits etc. From October-may she is constantly ill, snotty nose, cough etc mixed inbetween more serious chest infections.

She spent 18 months on long term antibiotics, Now she is treated with salbutamol inhaler, a preventer, montelukast, steroids and antibiotics as and when.

She is on her third course of abs in 6 weeks and its only October!!

I'm at my wits end and the thought of another 6 months of this is horrible.

She has seen an asthma nurse once and she isn't under a respiratory consultant. I think she needs a referral.

Anyone in the same boat? What other treatments are available, if any?

Thanks

There is a thread relating to asthma in children's health, I don't have the link to the latest one (it fills up quickly) but you should get some information there.

Thankyou, the asthma nurse said she didn't think dd had asthma and left so not sure that's the right place for me!

I agree you need to be under consultant care. DS has severe asthma and gets a lot of chest infections but we are under a consultant who can try different things to get things controlled

I'm going to speak to GP again, he is usually good, he referred her straight away for her other health issues but seems to drag his feet over this.

Plus I had the nurse tell me dd couldn't have the flu vax if she had a runny nose. I actually laughed out loud. I'm going to have to go over her head on that one or dd will get the jab next august (hot summer permitting)

Make sure she has the vaccine and not the nasal spray as the nasal spray isn't suitable for severe chest problems

That's what I asked the nurse today, she said she hadn't heard that and all patients in the 2-3 age group were getting the nasal spray, chronic or not. Hmm

I've read about the chest problem thing on here, can I ask who told you?

The nurse at our practice told me (after the receptionist had booked DS in).

Ok thanks I'll bring it up again.
