Where to get a flu vaccination for my 10 year old

Does anyone know where I can get a flu vaccination for my 10 year old son? I am on the border of Worcestershire, Gloucestershire and Herefordshire?

GP say go to pharmacy. All the pharmacies say they only do adults. Tried travel clinic after seeing it suggested online (the travel clinics are pharmacies too though) and they only do adults.

I am willing to pay but can't find anywhere to take him. Can anyone help please?

Go back to your GP.
I have just refused one for DD. is there a particular reason you wnt him to have it?

Bert2e · 11/10/2013 15:08

Why wont the GP do it for you?

curlew · 11/10/2013 15:09

Why do you want it?

jellybelly18 · 11/10/2013 15:11

Gp but you have to pay privately unless he is in a target group

DancingInTheSnow · 11/10/2013 15:55

GP have says they will do privately but not until end of Dec and so only when they know they have spare ones left.

Not sure why I want it is relevant - but simply because I want to reduce the risk of him getting flu this winter! His sibling was unwell for seven weeks last year with it and £12 or whatever is worth that to me to vaccinate against it.

It's only relevant in that it may impact on whether you coud push to be offered it - like family history or something.
It's not like I asked what car you drive.

I am sure you can sort it out yourself.

Have you tried other GP surgeries in your area? You may need to transfer though.

Or try calling the health visitor and just see if she can recommend or suggest anywhere.

Does your school have a school nurse? If so ask there for recommendations.

DancingInTheSnow · 11/10/2013 18:03

That wasn't meant to be rude Pagwatch. To me it seemed obvious why someone would want a flu vaccination - clearly not so! Sorry. No offence was meant. I just had a sudden feeling from your Q that the thread was about to go down the cons of vaccinations route. That you were challenging my wish to get the vaccine. Blush

I have asked GP, travel clinic, pharmacies (HV is part of GP surgery team). I asked at school and they said ask GP! I am just being sent round in circles.

Nope. It was a misunderstanding then.
I would never talk anyone out of vaccination.

If your other child was very ill I would have hoped your GP would sympathise. I'd go back and bother him again. Perhaps you can wear him down.

Private GP.

DancingInTheSnow · 11/10/2013 21:34

GP has put his sibling (DS1) on the list for NHS vaccination this year but DS1 isn't in a high risk group (neither is DS2 but think as they said no last year and then he was so ill with flu they are calling him in this year for it).

I have no grounds to push for an NHS vaccine for DS1 - he doesn't fit the government criteria fair enough. I am just surprised and a bit annoyed that we can pop into Asda or Boots and pay a tenner to protect ourselves but can't get DS1 vaccinated for free or by paying!

Expat - how do I find a private GP? Nothing comes up online.

Hi, a private paediatrician will be able to give the vaccine. Many paediatricians at NHS hospitals also take on private patients. So you could try Googling your local hospital to find out whether they have paediatricians and then contact them to see if they also take on private patients. I know that at the John Radcliffe in Oxford consultants see both private and NHS patients, same for many London hospitals. Alternatively, maybe early Christmas shopping in London and booking an appointment at the Portland hospital. But this is probably not very practical ...

candycoatedwaterdrops · 12/10/2013 10:48

I have a good private GP in Highgate, North London but not sure if that's too far for you?

Lottie4 · 12/10/2013 11:09

My understand is that GPs will only give routine flu injections if you are in a risk category, ie have a heart condition, over 65. I've had pneumonia twice and asked about it last Christmas but apparently I don't qualify.

beautifulgirls · 12/10/2013 17:57

Can you ask the GP if you can buy a vaccine from the pharmacy and have it administered at the GP clinic so not taking away from the GP stock??? Pharmacy may need it in writing from the GP before the supply the vaccine to you though.

chocoshopoholic · 16/10/2013 21:02

I have mine done through work occupational health doctor. They did my cousin (then aged 5) as a private patient when swine flu started. Do you have something similar who may be able to do it for you?

monikar · 17/10/2013 14:42

I was going to say a private gp service or the Portland Hospital in London.

ProudAS · 20/10/2013 21:00

A private hospital maybe such as South Bank?
