Thermometers for babies

What type of thermometer do you use for your newborns?

I've seen normal digital ones (presumably for an armpit temp?) and then more expensive ear ones which are supposed to be more accurate.

Is it worth splashing out?

Ear thermometer here.

It definitely gives more accurate readings (although I'm now starting to trust myself more) and it's also what the doctor uses, so DS is happier now to let a GP check him over.

We got a braun ear one but when we were in hospital this week the nurse took my son's temperature with one that she just hovered near his forehead and she said it was about £35 online and the hospitals now use them so they don't have a wake a sleeping baby or child. Looked really good and must be accurate as this was a children's hospital.

I bought an ear thermometer when DD was a new born. 10 years later it is still going strong and was an excellent investment.

I use the tympanic/ear one too. Also purchased 10 years, also going strong!
