Allergies and choosing a secondary

My dd has an allergy to dairy, eggs, seeds. Not a problem for me but it would seem secondary schools seem a bit puzzled by what to do when I mention it at open evenings in relation to catering options. Surely she would be able to eat something on the menu other than a potato? Any one got experience of having a dc with an allergy who is also considering the food side of things whilst choosing a school?

If you want her to eat school dinners, then I'd say it's worth contacting the catering company and asking them about it. Might be you can have a copy of their food planner and ask them to keep a portion of certain things aside each day for your daughter. My daughter's primary school are brilliant with children who have allergies and will often provide a special pudding just for one, so don't see why secondary schools can't.

The other option would be to send her with a packed lunch, so you don't have to worry. My daughter's four main friends have packed lunches and there are often three others who sit down and join them, so it's quite a social thing.

Packed lunches; if her allergy's are of significant severity then it's the only safe way (massive risk of cross-contamination otherwise), unless school is willing to prep her meals separately (unlikely).
