Single vomiting incident - WWYD?

Please don't flame me... I really don't know what to do.

DTDs are in reception year at school. Yesterday afternoon, they went to their usual dance & play session which involves a lot of jumping around, at the end of which there was a mini party as it was another girl's birthday. Everyone had some cake and sweets. DD1 also drank her entire bottle of water (quite a big bottle). On the way home in the car, DD1 started making funny noises although she insisted she was fine. When we got home, she vomited extravagantly all over the front garden Shock which mainly consisted of water and (by the looks of it) cake icing.

She ate most of her tea, slept normally and also ate a normal amount of breakfast. There have been no further vomiting incidents and she's acting completely normal, i.e. fighting with DD2. I am therefore 99% certain it was just car sickness brought on by a tummy full of water and sugar.

DH says she should just go to school as normal, not be kept home for 48 hours. I agree from an illness point of view, but keep thinking I'll be mortified Blush if/when DTDs mention to teacher about the Puking Incident and everyone will think we're those parents.

Sounds like she got motion sickness. I would probably keep her off today to make sure

headlesslambrini · 10/10/2013 08:28

If it was my DD I'd send her in. Chances are it is nothing more than car sickness which my DD does have. I would be up in court if I'd kept her off every time she had it.

I am very hot on keeping kids off school if they have had D &/or V. However, what your DD had was clearly an overload of party food/jumping about/water/car. School for that young lady!

Just tell the teacher she was car sick last night - pre empt any 'looks'.

DameDeepRedBetty · 10/10/2013 08:29

Oh dear, I feel for you...

I well remember dtd1 vomiting candy floss after an excitable trip to the fair - all over my bed - Grin, and absolutely agree that it was car-sickness, rich food and excitement, not a bug.

Do you go into school with the girls in the mornings? I did - it would give you an opportunity to tell teacher/t.a. what happened, but be prepared to be told to take them home.

It IS a lovely day - if that happens, go leaf-catching in the park?

DSJamesHathaway · 10/10/2013 08:29

I'd send her in. You know your child and what she's like. If she hasn't got any other symptoms now and didn't have any after being sick then it probably wasn't a bug, just car sickness and over-indulgence as you suggested.

dd was sick last term after a coach journey back to school having had after match tea of sweet things and fizzy drinks at another school ! She had reflux as a baby and it just happens from time to time, she's not ill .

TheElementsSong · 10/10/2013 08:33

Thanks for replies, she really does seem completely fine. Currently sliding around floor with sister being 'sea otters'... I think I will take her to school.

Should also mention she has been to loo this morning and has no diarrhoea. (TMI?)

Took the sea otters DTDs to school, but totally bottled it about talking to the teacher. I am so crap at interacting with people in real life! I shall await The Looks.
