Chickenpox - do I go to GP?

My 4 yo seems to have chickenpox. She has a few spots on her neck, back, legs, face.
I am fairly sure it's chickenpox, one is actually filled with some fluid.

Do I need to go to the GP at all? To confirm it? To get some stuff to put on the spots or would you just stay at home, buy the stuff in Boots (do I get it over the counter?) and not bother with GP?

It's only my 3rd child Grin somehow I have forgotten what I did with the others. Too long ago.

Unless you suspect complications, I wouldn't bother with the GP. Just buy the stuff in Boots.

I wouldn't bother either unless, as Elle says there are complications.

Do you need it confirmed? I mean does it look like typical CP? Has she been in contact with CP? If the answer to either of those questions is yes then it probably is CP! Hope she feels better soon.

Unless the spots get infected dont go to the gp, get some calamine cream and calpol and piriton from boots. Porridge oats in a muslin (or similar) for the bath really does help with the itching.

The porridge tip worked wonderfully for my DD at 2am when she couldn't sleep for the itching. Nice bath, porridge oats in the foots of a pair of tights, makes the water going milky like, but very soothing. Be prepared is the key Smile

Thanks! My reaction was also not to bother with GP, unless she's poorly. Will get Boots' stuff when my teens have returned (to babysit).

The spotty one watches 101 Dalmations. She can't be that poorly (yet) if the sense of humour hasn't suffered.

Thanks for the porridge tip, never heard of it before. Hope we don't need it.

I didn't take dd to drs as nursery had an outbreak so knew what it was pretty much. I used virasoothe gel which was fantastic. Piriton if she complained of itching. Hope she's better soon x

Like others have said, there's no need to go to the GP unless you see complications, like infection in the affected area.
