Threadworms.....Argh!

Hi All

Help!! I really do think the discovery of these little brutes has pushed me over the edge..... really after opinions or reassurance...

Watching my DS wriggling around and crying out that is bum bum hurt was enough for the horror of worms to desend on me. A couple of days later he was doing a wee on the potty and farted out (sorry) two little blighters. This happened nearly three weeks ago and we have all been treated with Mebendazole including my nine month old DD.

I have followed strict hygiene rules and have washed towels, bedding, PJ's every day (it's killed me) and I now have a face full of spots (stress) and very dry hands......

My prob is, is that he was complainign of a sore bum bum this morning and I seem to have a continually irrated one (sorry)! We have all taken the requred two doses and now I am freaking out!

Wondering whether my irritation is in my head (have never seen anything) or whether my DS is getting sore from washing each morning and evening.

Or do we have a particulary stubborn strain of these blighters.

One thing to add is that I have never seen any around his anus....and I have looked when he has said his bum hurts.

Any advice would be awesome.

It's the glue they use that causes the itching.. use a baby wipe whenever you get an itch to take away that glue and use on the bairn as well. Once it's In your head it's hard not to imagine that they're still there. If it carries on then personally I would take another dose.. but that's just what I would do.

You do know that you are meant to have medicine again after 2 weeks, don't you? I think that's what we did.
That's for any eggs that weren't killed and then hatched.
Seems like any eggs laid have now hatched.

You need to dose everyone again and keep up with the washing, hand washing and scrubbing.

We've been there. It is truly horrible!

If you Google life cycle of threadworms there's lots of info by the way.

not much to add, apart from i sympathise - my 5 yr DD is constantly plagued with these and we follow all the rules, take the required doses of medicine (and after 2 weeks), do all the washing, i have even steam cleaned all the mattresses, carpets the lot, and they still return every few months. All the more frustrating as she actually has meticulous hand washing routine after the toilet, before eating etc....

You have done all you can!

TMI Alert...

This might not be for everyone, but when I suspect the itching is in my head, I have a good look at a poo, having seen what it looks like if you do have them, it is usually reassuring. I apply metanium to all their bumholes before bed and wipe off with a baby wipe in the morning, am convinced it helps.

Would also treat again after 2 weeks (ie a third time). It is free on pharmacy first rounf here.
