Girls: Late bloomer in growth / height = Late puberty?

As my dd is the smallest in her year group all the time. Her height seems to be consistently over 2 years behind her actual age. Just wonder her chances of starting her puberty 2 or 3 years later than the average sized girls so she can have more time to catch up with her height. I know this is not a good site for medical advice. But I just want to hear people’s own experiences that’s all. Ive heard a lot of boy late bloomers but very rarely heard girl later bloomers stories. So Just wonder how common this is comparing to boys’.

Are you and her father physiologically small as well?

I was around the smallest in my class and stayed that way. Had menarche just before my 13th birthday.

Dd 10 is also very dainty. My dh is 6ft and had a late growth spurt. Will be interesting to see what happens with dd ...

Watching thread with interest.

I was wondering the exact same thing last night! My DD is very small too - could easily fit in with the two year groups below her. She is 9, and has had a big growth spurt, but I think all her friends have too. Both myself and DH are average height, so not expecting her to be particularly small.

blueshoes - I think myself and my dh are very much within the average height. My dd gets teased a lot and it cannot be good for her confidence.

My daughter is 12 and only 140cm, whereas some of her friends are 152/155cm. She is in age 9-10 tops. She was the smallest in a class of 32 in junior school.

However, she has had breasts and hair down below growing for the last year. She doesn't have any underarm hair, but apparently only one of her four main friends has grown any so far. She seems to have a noticeable discharge about once a month and I've noticed the last few times she's had it, she seems to have an outbreak of spots a couple of weeks later, so am guessing hormones are kicking in, in readiness for her periods. So for her, I don't think her height has delayed puberty.

I was the smallest in my year at school...and indeed the year below as well! Im the same height now as I was at 12 which is when I started my periods if thats any help?

Im 4ft 10...no idea what that is in cm though.

My 8 year old DS is very close to my height already.

DDs 1 & 2 were both tiny at 11 (below 140cm in year 7). DD1 didn't begin puberty until 12.5. DD2 began at around 10.5. DD1 started periods at 14.9, DD2 at 13.9. DD1 (now 18) measures 5ft 5, DD2 5ft 3 (aged 16).

Not sure there are any hard and fast rules about this. Friend's DD started periods at 10 and still tiny but kept growing for years afterwards and is a completely normal height now (about 5ft 4 I think).
