My DD has had chronic tummy ache around the belly button area since July 2013. Our GP has been amazing and does not treat me like a neurotic mum. We are awaiting an appt to see a specialist this month. She has had blood tests for inflammation, liver function, iron levels, heliobacter pylori etc and also stool and urine tests. All normal. No x rays or ultra sounds yet but suspect next step. She says it's there all the time but worse after eating in morning and evening. It's really impacting on her life now - not wanting to go to school, not sleeping well etc and the emotional strain on me is awful. Nothing worse than not being able to help your child or make it better. She had chronic reflux as a baby. Do kids get IBS? If so what's the treatment? Could it be something gynae even at her age although this is not cyclical pain it seems to be there most of the time. Any advice or shared experiences welcome.

Am bumping for you. I dont know the answer to your questions. I do know someone who was diagnosed with IBS at 17.

My husband had tummy problems from 18months started with a bowt of ecoli and giardia. Then IBS from age of 9. Good gastroenterologist will help. Take care op. Try her on peppermint tea if she will drink it. It may help sooth her tum a bit.

Are you being referred to Nigel Meadows by any chance at the royal London? My child ended up under his care after weeks in hospitals and every test under the sun it felt like. Highly recommend a consultation with him. My child ended up on Gabapentin, amitryptiline etc for months but it did the trick and all well now. Is very frightening to see your child in pain and no one knows why.

Hi Esmes, my DD is 12 and going through something similar. We have had the blood tests, urine tests and ultrasound and it has shown nothing. My GP has been brilliant too and we are awaiting a CT scan and endoscopy in November. My DD has been tested for Coeilac, has yours? DD's came back negative but I will be asking that they do another test.
Does your DD eat much? My DD can hardly eat anything and is now only 8 1/2 stone, which is below a healthy weight when you are 5ft 7.
I am so worried! We are now heading into the 3rd week off school.
Does your DD have any other symptoms?

They may do a barium meal and xray to check how quickly the stomach digests food its called a gastric delay test. But best see what your gp comes up with. My husband is with st marks hospital in harrow and prof Epstein at royal free.
