14 week-old won't unclench hands

Little DS has his hands tightly clenched into fists most of the time. Can open up his hands, and will grasp etc, and they relax a bit open when he's asleep, but default position is little fists.

Is this an issue? Have you had similar? Do I need to massage his hands open every now and then so they don't, you know, FREEZE in that position?

How sweet, I love the crinkling of little fists [moony wistful emoticon]...but back to the point: I recall both mine doing this up until about four months so AFAIK this sounds fine. Oh and I love the baby fluff that they collect in their fists (off for a lie-down until broodiness passes).

We had this with dd. aher thumbs were tucked into the palms of her hands for months! I took her to the GP when she was about a year old and she referred us to the paediatrician. The paediatrician checked her hands and said that there was noting wrong with the structure, but suggested that we gently encourage dd to open her hands by offering her things to hold, and gently rubbing the palms of their hands to encourage her thumbs into a better position.

Aby the time she started school she had almost stopped doing it, but still reverts to the same position when she's watching TV!

Ok so nothing to worry about and I will give him fat things to hold. thank you.

I would just mention it to your GP or HV next time you see them, to be sure.

I've had two fist-baller-uppers, and they unclenched eventually :)

Are the thumbs tucked into the fingers or outside? Either way encourage opening by rubbing/ tickling the back of the hands. I would mention to HV if it doesn't change or he finds it hard to open them. It's probably nothing but sometimes can point to other issues.
