Can anyone tell me if we need to go to a&e or not?

Gut instinct says no but its not my kid so am fretting slightly more than if my child.

One of dd's friends has fallen in our garden and cut the back of her head. Right in the hair so can't steri strip it. It's about an inch long, about 2mm deep and gaping about 2-3mm.

Bit of blood, but has stopped bleeding. I've washed it and put antiseptic on it. Child says it doesn't hurt, she doesn't have a headache, doesn't feel sick, didnt loose consciousness. She says she doesn't feel she needs a Dr. She's 13 and probably thinks I'm fussing. Grin

She's staying here all night.

Opps - too much Wine for me....of course taking care of someone else's child is never a PITA

A&E is always a PITA whomever it is for. But it is a PITA because something has happened to take you there. I think we can forget that the "incident" is the PITA - A&E is the solution. We should all just, love, love the fact it is there and generally the staff/service is fab - albeit a few bits of waiting involved.

Without her parents have you even got authority to agree to treatment? I am not sure how it works with teenagers.

VivaLeThrustBadger · 28/09/2013 21:51

Parents are having a weekend away. Grandparents are looking after her and it was agreed she could come to ours for a sleepover. I've spoken to her grandma and she did offer to come to a£e but she sounded a bit worried. They don't know the city, where hospital is.

A 13 yr old should be able to consent to wound gluing herself.

VivaLeThrustBadger · 28/09/2013 21:55

Hospital have marked me down as temp guardian. It's only glue not heart surgery. Grin

Grandparents have decided not to ring parents as not too serious. And it isn't really.

I've not met her parents yet. I feel awful.

ATruth I borrowed a mobility scooter from a National Trust Property - and used the disabled loo. I am not registered disabled - but have a broken foot and non-weight bearing cast. Should I start a thread about it.....should I have or shouldn't I have.....oooo.....and we parked in the disabled space*

  • But I could drip-feed the fact my mum is a blue-badge holder and she was driving.

*Viva - would this entertain?

GladbagsGold · 28/09/2013 21:59

If my (imaginary) DD hurt herself at someone's house I would be completely grateful for parents taking her to A&E. It really wouldn't matter if we had met.

Actually I once had to call an ambo for a boy at DS' party, hadn't met the mum but we went for coffee a few days after and she was very thankful.

VivaLeThrustBadger · 28/09/2013 21:59

But yy for a controversial thead for entertainment

Do they have 'Temp Guardian and Child' parking spaces at A&E? If not we need a MN Campaign!

VivaLeThrustBadger · 28/09/2013 22:02

Sigh. Someone here now, has come from ooh next door as waited for two hours and not seen there. They think that wait should mean they queue jump here. Lady wants sleeping tablets, that's why she's here.

ATruthUniversallyAcknowledged · 28/09/2013 22:03

That sounds like a good one fishfingers

VivaLeThrustBadger · 28/09/2013 22:04

I've parked in the staff car park. Is that controversial? I do work here, just not today.

OP posts:
ATruthUniversallyAcknowledged · 28/09/2013 22:05

A few hours in a&e should wear her out enough to go to sleep without the tablets Grin

ATruthUniversallyAcknowledged · 28/09/2013 22:05

YABU viva! Parking in the staff car park when not at work?! Some people are so entitled...

VivaLeThrustBadger · 28/09/2013 22:06

Fish Fingers, what if a bonafide disabled person couldn't have a nice day out as you were hogging the scooter? Wink

OP posts:
GladbagsGold · 28/09/2013 22:06

I think that is very very wrong and you should do some work immediately to earn your free parking. Maybe offer some counselling to the sleeping pills lady to get to the bottom of her issues?

VivaLeThrustBadger · 28/09/2013 22:08

It's the second time today I've used the staff car park. Was visiting earlier.

OP posts:
VivaLeThrustBadger · 28/09/2013 22:10

Sleep pill lady has been told there is one person in front of her. Hoping it's us.

OP posts:
ATruthUniversallyAcknowledged · 28/09/2013 22:10

WHAT?! Visiting? Visiting? Do you think some sick person deserves a visitor more than a doctor needs a space? Pah. I might hide this thread.

VivaLeThrustBadger · 28/09/2013 22:12

Am worried accident prone drunks will start arriving before long and queue jump.

OP posts:
VivaLeThrustBadger · 28/09/2013 22:13

But I pay £13 a month for my pass! I am entitled.

OP posts:
GladbagsGold · 28/09/2013 22:14

If you are in front of sleep pill lady please take extra long and then do a Loser sign on the way out. That will help her to make a more helpful experience based hospital choice in future.

I have just noticed. Do you have 2 hospitals next door to each other?

VivaLeThrustBadger · 28/09/2013 22:20

Sleeping pill lady is 90 if she's a day so might hold off with the loser sign

Lady with noisy baby has also been told one person in front of her. Mmm

OP posts:
VivaLeThrustBadger · 28/09/2013 22:21

Oh and same hospital. You go through left door for a£e, right door for ooh.

OP posts:
VivaLeThrustBadger · 28/09/2013 22:22

Sleeping pill lady is hassling receptionist again.
