Cestlavielife I thought a lightweight pj's would prob be okay and had already swapped him into some but he was still getting hotter, so decided to strip them off as well. Seems to be working, still hot but not quite as hot as he was

Was also worried he might cool down too much but I won't be able to sleep through when he is ill so will be checking on him through the night so can pop his pj's back on if needed

Lightweight pjs should be fine. If he wakes up too cold, it may bring his temperature up again as a body mechanism to keep warm (like not using cold water/ice to bring down a temperature).

Give him another calpol dose six hours after first. In morning go and get some ibuprofen as well so you can alternate .
Or ask husband if available to go to all night pharmacy and buy calprufen nurofen for kids .

EnglishRose1320 · 27/09/2013 23:03

I have set an alarm on my phone for when he can next have calpol. Will def be buying ibuprofen in the morning- partner works away and isn't home till next week so can't get any tonight. Still seems quite hot now so am going to just pop his pj bottoms back

Afaik it's fairly rare for a young kid to have a headache. What's his temp now? Is he ok with bright lights? An he put his chin to his chest?

BlueSprite · 27/09/2013 23:17

I set the alarm every hour and a half when my 3 year old DS is ill with a really high fever, basically because I want to be sure the medication is working and his temp isn't soaring out of control.

The other things I always do is check whether he is over sensitive to the light (photosensitive) and whether he can look down, chin on chest, without discomfort. I also check to see that his hands and feet aren't cold. Lastly I check for rash. Particularly if his temp is very high and he is sleepy.

I know this may sound OTT but it comes on recommendation from my retired GP father. (Except for the frequent night checking, which is fueled by my anxiety!)

I hope your DS is better soon. It's just horrible when they're ill - mine is also feverish!

BlueSprite · 27/09/2013 23:18

My DS was also saying his head hurt, btw.

EnglishRose1320 · 27/09/2013 23:23

I have already checked he can put his chin to his chest and that his hands and feet are not cold plus no visible rash anywhere. Although I have set an alarm for when he can next have medicine I doubt I will really sleep that much in between am a bit of a worrier so will prob try and check on him quite often but with minimal disruption to his sleep if possible. He asked me to turn the light off earlier because it was hurting his eyes and I did have a minute of panic but it was light when he fell asleep and I think it was just him adjusting to the light because after a second or so it didn't bother him.

EnglishRose1320 · 28/09/2013 12:32

Didn't sleep well until about 2/3 ish and then slept till 7, woke up with no temp :) still a bit floppy today but on the mend, thanks for asking

Glad to hear he is on the mend, hope you all have better sleep tonight :)

EnglishRose1320 · 28/09/2013 22:42

He asked to go to bed early because 'he stills feels a bit wobbly' and has been sound asleep for hours, hopefully I will catch up on sleep as well, night all
