8 poo accidents in 2 days, but no diarrhea, stomach ache, temp etc - what going on?

My DS is 3 and a half, and has been potty trained and clean day and night for around a year now. He was very lazy telling me he needed a poo when we first started potty training, but has been fine for ages now. However, yesterday and today he has had 8 poo incidents, where a little blob of poo has come out. It's not runny, or even that soft, just normal. He is absolutely fine in health apart from that too. What's going on? I'm really puzzled. It's like he doesn't know he needs to go?

Well it may just be a blip in his training, but I would watch out for other signs that he may be constipated.

Some small children get into a bad habit of holding on and get blocked up with inevitable overflow. [sorry] Is he drinking plenty and eating fruit, veg cereal and so on?

It seems a bit excessive to be just a normal poo accident - 8 times! Good point about holding on though - I wonder if he doesn't want to poo at Kindergarten and is subconsciously holding on and little bits keep escaping. He does eat loads of fruit...and I've got a few plums I can give him to really help things along! He drinks lots of milk too.
Anyone else had this problem with their child?

Oh dear, we're now up to 12 little accidents. I've fed him plums, orange juice, other fruit and veg, and he has done one proper poo, nice and soft. So not constipated. But he says he doesn't know he needs a poo, and tiny bits are coming out. Help!!! Anyone?

That does sound a lot, have you asked at kindergarten if he uses the loo ok there? Has he only just started going?

GP?

Prophylactic worm treatment?

hugoagogo · 26/09/2013 19:34

I did think gp; but I would be reluctant to make a big deal of it with your ds yet.

I think the fact that he was trained before bodes well for him to get back on track.

Hugoagogo, he has just moved in to a new class, but he's been at the nursery at the same school for a year now, and hasn't had problems before. He is very settled in his new class, and the staff are lovely.

Terrormesue - worms??? I haven't seen any, and he's not itching...is frequent small poo leaks a sign of worms?

Off to the GP tomorrow I think - or at least phone for advice...I don't want to make a big deal of it either, but it's so out of character for him. I might try HUGE bribes to see if I can reward him for going to do a poo properly. Then I'll know if it's totally out of his control.
