Extra teeth and what they do about them.

my 10 year old ds has an extra front tooth behind his two front teeth. Its only just broken through the gum. He had extra baby teeth so this isn't entirely unexpected. I've been to the dentist with him and have been referred to the orthodontist. just waiting on an appointment now.

I really just wondered had anyone else had the same issue and what the solution was? If you did was it only the one extra tooth? previous x-rays on my son have proved inconclusive about whats happening above the gumline.

Thanks

My ds 2 had an extra tooth in the middle between his incisors - looked like another canine! Also another one came through the roof of his mouth.

He also had adult teeth in the wrong place - so they didn't push the baby teeth out as they came down - he ended up with rows of teeth like a shark.

He had the extra teeth extracted under general, and the baby teeth by the dentist. He has had traintracks for 2 years, and prob for another 6month at least, and will need a retainer for about 7 years.

My other 2 boys have no problems at all.....

Thanks - thats an interesting experience! My dd has had the train track braces and is now on the retainers but she just had overcrowding.

Hi - I had an extra tooth in the roof of my mouth, probably as captain describes above. I think they found it by x-ray before it actually came through (or maybe dentist could see a lump? whatever way, it was found before there was actually a tooth sticking through!) I had it removed under general when I was about 11/12 - no overnight stay, but I remember it being quite sore afterwards. No lasting effects now.

My other teeth were quite wonky and I had another adult tooth that just never appeared, but appearance sorted out by a couple of years of braces and you wouldn't know to look now.

My ds had three front baby teeth - had one removed when his adult teeth came through. Only two adult front teeth. Grin

My ds hand a supernumerary tooth at milk stage and they left it.

It came in too with his adult teeth (he's 11 now) and was sited behind his main teeth. It was extracted at the dental hospital once it was big enough to grasp and although the socket gave him a bit of gyp (he had a dose of antibiotics) it's not been an issue since.

Much easier than my dd2 with thumb sucking damage and crowding - treatment starts when her final milk teeth are out and we're looking at 2 years of braces, at least 4 extractions etc .....

Sounds exactly like my situation. Extra tooth is behind his front teeth so extraction looks very likely.

My dd just coming to the end of train track braces. Just under 2 years of braces done and shes now on retainers. She had 4 extractions just before the braces. She didn't suck her thumb or have a soother. My ds was a thumbsucker til age 2 - no connection with teeth problems now though.

I had lots of extra teeth - normal amount of baby teeth but when the adult teeth came through about 10 of them came through twice. Once the dentist realised, I had regular appointments and x-rays and each time they'd decide which was the better of a pair from the x-ray (based mainly on positioning I think) and remove the other.

It was fine. Dentist was lovely, no distress or infection or braces.
