Anyone heard of "hot tummy"?

DD often complains of hot tummy. I have no idea what it is and she can't describe it further except to say that her tummy feels hot inside and that it hurts, a lot. Mostly it is not that bad, but this morning she climbed back into bed and just curled up. GP was not remotely helpful and just suggested it could be wind. She doesn't want to eat anything when she has it, and wants her tummy to be uncovered to cool it down, definitely doesn't want a hot water bottle! I have tried a few things, camomile tea, gripe water, milk etc, but none seem to help. Any suggestions???

I am not a doctor but it sounds related maybe to acid in stomach, like indigestion type of thing. Maybe the stomach acid is not in balance which makes her feel 'hot' there like a burning sensation or something?

Is there a pattern at all to it that you have noticed, such as after certain food? I'm thinking of an intolerance or reflux type thing, coeliacs or something like that?

DD - who is 3 - says her tummy is hot when she must mean nauseous as she usually throws up after. How old is your DD?

My ds used to say this when he was constipated, could that be it?

Insolence · 20/09/2013 18:39

She is 6. She adores her food and i hadnt noticed any patterns linked with diet. I think the constipation thing is very likely because she doesn't drink enough liquid and this is a bit of an issue. Will monitor, I hadn't made that link before. Thank u!

DH used to say that when he was not feeling well. Turned out he is lactose intolerant.

I meant he used to say it when he was a child!

My DS usually says his tummy is hot just before he is sick !! This has happened a lot over the last 12 months and he has recently been diagnosed with migraines. Migraines can upset tummys in children. He also has an intolerance to dairy products.

DS says "hot" for cramps. In hoi case "hot legs".
