After watching Watchdog last night about this awful chemical I had a light bulb moment. I always used to buy Huggies Pure and Huggies Natural Care wipes thinking that they would be very gentle on my dd skin. She used to suffer quite a lot with nappy rash but it suddenly went mental around 20 months and her skin kept blistering and cracking to the extent where it would bleed. It became so severe we had several prescriptions for hydrocortisone and the like. She was in agony a lot of the time. We stopped using any products except Dermol in her bath and changed the wipes to Asda, Tesco or Johnsons newborn/sensitive. After a while it began to fade and eventually cleared up. On one visit to Grandma's Huggies were used and lo and behold she had a flare up. I couldn't work out why these wipes in particular would cause her such a bad reaction but I now realise she must have a allergy to methylisothiazolinone. I have checked and its in so much of the stuff i use and even in the 'sensitive skin' baby body wash I have bought for dd#2. I don't think I will be using it now.
I understand that this is used as a preservative but surely there must be alternatives especially for use in products for babies and children. Anyone else had any problems with it?

Omg, ds couldn't wear pampers as they gave him chemical burns and dd got the most horrendous nappy rash when we switched from using water to wipes. I can't remember which ones were the worst but I know we did use Huggies for a bit. We now use kinder by nature wipes and they seem to be fine on her skin
