No fever, just quite obvious cough and cold and feeling under the weather. Do you send yours with this? He is 7. Thank you for reading.

I wouldn't. Not fair on the other kids or the teacher.

poachedeggs · 18/09/2013 07:30

Always. If you keep them home like that they're always fine by 10am!

Sparklingbrook · 18/09/2013 07:34

Over the winter there wouldn't be a child in school if the parents kept them off with coughs and colds.

CMOTDibbler · 18/09/2013 07:35

In to school

Ireallymustbemad · 18/09/2013 07:50

I would. With a bit of distraction he'll feel better.

Have sent DS1 (12) in with a heavy cold on Monday.

Thank you all. In he goes!

I wouldn't no.. I've got a heavy cold at moment and first few days felt awful, no way would A) have felt up to doing anything and B) I wouldn't want to inflict my constant sneezing, coughing, eyes streaming... germs on anyone else!!
Yes kids catch all sorts but I'm sure they would catch a lot less if people didn't think it was fine to dose their kids up on calpol and pack them off to school for the day when they are unwell.

I never do. And I feel really annoyed when other parents do send in obviously unwell or horribly snotty children. All it does in infect the whole class and then their families. I have a close friend going through chemo and it makes it very difficult to be on hand to help if the dds or i get ill. I also have a mother in a care home whom we can't visit if any of us are under the weather as it is too risky for the frailer residents. Many families have things like this going on and so taking care not to spread infection when you can avoid doing so seems common sense.
Pre- antibiotics people were much more careful about not spreading illness and now we are all much more slack. As antibiotics lose their grip on infections we all need to re-learn to not spread illness when it is avoidable.
