newborn's hips not right

dd2 is 2.5 weeks old, she was a footling breech with a c section. she has a routine hip scan scheduled at 6 weeks; the day after her 6 week check with the doc. the scan is routine because she was breech.

the creases on her legs are not symetrical and I think she can't do the marching reflex as she should. she also naturally lies in the same footling position - one leg bent the other straight.

all this leads me to think there is a problem with her hips. should I see a doctor sooner than 6 weeks?

advice please experienced ones..

My daughter had this and was diagnosed with hip dysplacia (I can't spell it!) she had a harness on for a while and is now totally fine 8 years on Grin

Yes, go and see your GP, no sense waiting. It is readily treated.

Talk to your GP. If there is any hint of hip dysplasia you will be referred to orthopaedics. With DD2 the GP thought there might be a problem at the 6 week check but was not sure because DD2 also has hypermobility in many joints. We were referred but did not get an appointment until she was 16 weeks. Her right hip was almost completely dislocated. She was in a Pavlik harness for 12 weeks. DD2 is now 1, crawling and just starting to stand. It will be a while before she walks but her generally floppy joints make it harder for her.

If your DD does have hip dysplasia, the sooner it is treated the quicker it gets better. So make a nuisance of yourself if necessary to get that appointment.

If you she has it and gets put in a harness, come back here for tips on dealing with it.
